I just found this kit for building your own Telecaster. It has one review on harmony-central, which is a good one. Anybody here tried Torres? I've heard bad things about their amp kits, so I was just curious about the guitar kits.

I'd stay far away from that! Call USA Custom Guitars or Warmoth.

A Torres Tele kit? That makes me uncomfortable just hearing about it.

i believe that's a Saga kit Dan sells (and at a real good discount, IMHO). a friend bought one for his son to build and it got a big :AOK. i've thought of getting one myself someday, but that's more for the learning experience. the quality is reportedly good (fit & function), parts are decent.

What's with Torres to elicit warnings of caution???

I suppose the thing that makes me "cautious" is that it is a complete kit and only cost $105.00. It also has an uncut "paddle" type headstock.
Headstock aside, at $105.00 for everything means cheap, cheap, cheap. This does not, however, reflect on Torres. They certainly aren't calling it a CS guitar. It just is what it is.

Yep, it's a Saga. Replace the tuners and it can be quite playable. The fretboard is very flat. I believe it is close to ~20". Good kit to get the feet wet.

Numerous horror stories. If you want to give this guy your money, go ahead. I'd look elsewhere.

Yeah, it'd just be for fun. But I want it to work and be playable, so I might just look somewhere else. Thanks.
