About these?... just recently aquired a quad from an Late 50's RCA Victor Stereo/Turn table etc.
I'd like to test them before putting them in an amp.

Great tubes. Test them, then try them in your amp.

RCA black-plate EL84 are fantastic tubes: very lively, with excellent clarity from tight bass through airy highs. They tend to hold together longer (later breakup) than other black-plate 6BQ5. Personally, I like them better than the lauded Mullards, and wonder why they're not discussed much. Now, if I could just get some more of them, at a reasonable price...

You probably don't hear as much about them because they don't pop up very often.

One of the best EL84 types I have ever used are the BP RCA's with the semi-opaque brown flashing.
I have a pair in one of my Sano 160R's now and paired with a Mullard ECC83, we're smokin' as they say ;)
