SF Princeton Reverb questions?

Hi, I just got a late 70's Princeton Reverb with the volume boost pot. Is it normal for the amp to be real loud on like 1 on the volume? It has a Weber California speaker and GT output tubes with a 6 written on them. It sounds pretty good but is already breaking up and real loud at 2 on the volume. It also has alot of bass no matter what I do. Does it need tubes or a cap job? Could it be a bad mod? Thanks and sorry for all the questions. I never had a Fender amp before.

That isn't normal at all. Have you disengaged the pull boost? If so, something's wrong or there's been a strange mod made to the amp.

It sounds like the amp has been bastardized. Enjoy the reverse-engineering. :(
