I want a more pro and flexible way of recording with my laptop. Right now I use a Line 6 Guitarport, its decent, but its not too flexible.
What do I need to record? Right now I just have a Shure SM57 mic (brand new) and a mic cable.
I want a simple PC based recording rig. I would also like to add drums to my recordings (not record real drums, but program).

These guys are probably sick of hearing this but the most user friendly system would defintly be and Mbox (2 input USB hardware) Into protools. You can get a new one for around 300.00

There are a lot of USB and firewire audio interfaces. Most of them will come with at least a basic version of one of the common brands of audio software. The biggest question you need to answer is how much do you want to spend. How many inputs do you need? How many tracks do you want to record at once?

I just want to record bass and guitar, and them program the drums using some kind of software, then mix everything in and create the song.
