Hi Tomo,

I have a request. If possible, would you have the music or tab for the ending you did in the first demonstration of the walking blues you did in the Accelerate Your Guitar Playing DVD? I need to learn more cool endings like that.

The DVD is great, I just wish it included transcriptions of your demonstrations, especially the one you did over the changes to All The Things You Are.

I have another question (sorry). One thing I've found difficult is playing a walking bass line over a static chord progression. For example; 2 or more measures of Gmaj7. Do you have any tips for this? Most of the time I simply walk up and down the arpeggio, but it get's boring.

I listen to BASS player and use more chomatics than major scale.
Best to not think any scales or arpeggio.. that makes un-musical.

My AYGP 2 will have a big section on "how to do (walking bassline
and comping)' with details. Hal Leonard is...

I use a tune like ..."Take the A train" for comping and walk..
It's not easy to play very musical real bass sounding bass line.

Definitely you should stick to play on 6th & 5th strings.
When I took lesson from Joe Pass, I learned a lot of those
and chord soloing ideas, outline chords... etc.

You're very welcome. I am glad that you enjoyed it.

I think a lot of guys just think jazz playing is hard... as long as
you think simple... actually like this, could be really simple to
play. I guess people think too much before playing music.

First go over Bb jazz blues changes with Rt 3 7 form...
then try this example. Then develope your own... it is really
important to hear the sound before you play and I would
work on more tone than just patterns.

Just a constructive bit from the other side of things: You have a really great sound of this kind of playing. You might try laying back just a bit, especially on your chords. Put a few more of them on the beat rather than off the beat to mix it up a little more. Putting a chord on the beat after just a few off the beat can be a really nice surprise and also lend a little more intensity to the groove. Intensity is always the problem in a guitar horn duo, especially when we're only using fingers. Also think about playing your bass line just a little louder. You want the bass to be a bigger presence for the soloist than where it is now. The harmony is great and the voicings are right there in a la Joe Pass. I always love hearing your clips even if I don't usually post. You've got a lot to offer as a player, that's for sure. :)

In the first measure, on the 'and' of the first beat. Should that be Ab and D instead of Ab and C? In all the other measures with Bb7 it's Ab and D (7th and 3rd)

Somebody suggested me that for a while ago. I just don't know how to set up

Thank you so much for your kind words. This is a part of my AYGP dvd
instructional dvd so I had to play every parts really clear. You are right about
though. Yes, it's nice to mix more choices of chord accent. That was I had to
play that way for this dvd purpose. I really appreciate your suggestion.

Yes, it 's around that changes. It's hard to play fast but actually it's really hard to play very slow too.

I like Confirmation, Donna Lee... all those great songs.
