The bleeding shroud in Gibson cases

So I have a blonde ES-175 with a magenta shroud in the case. I recently heard that these shrouds are known to bleed onto the finish of the guitar. I've been keeping the shroud outside the case, but my cats are having a field day with it. Aside from cutting it off and putting it in the case compartment, has anyone found a clever way of dealing with this?

I have three of these cases since the early 90's for guitars with nitro finishes (one is a blonde 335) and never have had the problem you describe. You can cut the fabric tabs that attach it and sew it back on if and when you decide to part wth it.

Cut it off & throw it away. I give mine to my wife, who cuts them up and uses them in various crafty projects she does.

The bleed you're thinking of happened when Gibson was shipping guitars they didn't let cure long enough. They fixed that practice a while back.

So what is the purpose of the 'blanket'?

I think it was designed to help keep particles from the more plush carpeting inside the case from getting into hard-to-reach spaces in the guitar and its electronics.

I have a blonde ES175 that I have had since new - 8 years ago.
When not playing it I have always kept the guitar in the case with the shroud over it and have experienced no problems with it whatsoever.

If you leave it in long enough, maybe the shroud will pick up the image of the 175. In 600 or 700 years it might be worth something! ;)

i've got a 98 les paul with the shroud and haven't had any problems either....in fact when i first heard about the "problem" i went over my guitar thoroughly to make sure.

I've had my 175 in one since 1997, no ill effects whatsoever.

Can you imagine if the blue shroud bled into the lemon burst finish on my Gary Moore Sig LP!

I've cut two shrouds out of Gibson cases. Not because of bleeding, just because they're a royal pain in the ass.

End of the night, guitar in one hand, opening guitar case on a dirty bar table with other hand, and, WTF? It's that damn shroud in the way again! Attempt to flip shroud out of the way by violently shaking case by handle, finally walk guitar back to guitar stand, walk case back to dirty bar table, open case, pull out trusty swiss army knife and dispense with offending shroud once and for all.
