I need to perform some basic maintenance (caps, etc.) on my SF Bandmaster and think I'll try out an upgrade or two--I'm considering replacing the OT with a Bassman unit while it's apart.

Has anyone done much business with these guys? Recommend a better parts supplier?

Their web ordering is pretty clumsy (you have to send them an email with the orders and credit card info).

I've heard the guy is a jerk but aside from the ordering routine, the service was quick and efficient. No complaints from me.

Their pricing is really good, especially on Hammond transformers and chasses for homebrewing. God help you if you email them with a technical question, though...

I've been sourcing most of my amp homebrewing "specialty" parts (i.e. things you can't get from Mouser or Digikey) from http://www.triodeelectronics.com/ lately. They have a pretty good selection of tubes, caps, and other stuff.

Another good source is http://www.eurotubes.com/. They only sell JJ/Tesla stuff, but recently they expanded from just tubes to also selling can caps as well.

I can't say that any of these guys are better than Angela. I have only baught from Tubes and More and had a good experience. Just other places to look and compare.

Hey, thanks for all of your input. Just shows me that more research is required.

I didn't see a mention of Hoffman, so I'll pipe up. I have done two small $50-ish orders with Doug recently, and I found the shipping/handling fees to be reasonable (not always the case!) and the service to be very quick.

He has the best prices on GeorgeL cable and ends that I've found, BTW.

If it were me, I'd cop the transformer from David Allen (Allen Amplification), no doubt about it. No one knows BF/SF amps like Allen and upgraded their transformers is one of his specialties.

I've done a lot of business over the years with Steve at Angela. He can be a little abrasive from time to time, but he won't BS ya. I've never gotten anything but excellent service. I've also done business with the others and have no complaints. Shop around! The best deal on Hammond transformers is at Antique Electronics in Arizona.
