I am building a guitar with a chambered mahogany body. I'm shooting for a Duo Jet kind of sound and I have a pair of TV Jones Classic Filtertrons that I plan on putting in. Here's my question. I really want to use mahogany for the top, but I'm concerned that if I don't use maple the guitar won't have enough top end. So, do you think I'll lose alot of top end by going with mahogany? This guitar will also have a Bigsby, if that matters.

Maybe I'm just gettin' old, but I'll take light weight over "built in" bite. You can always play with your amp settings. You've got great pickups. Those will go along way to the tone you want. I'd vote for a hog top in honor of the old fart brigade:AOK

Took me a while to figure out that "hog" means mahogany.

What kind of finish are you going to use??

I say go for the 'hog' as well, esp. if your amp settings will get you enough top end.

Tinman,

No real loss of highs in using mahogany for a top. Many of my favorite guitars are all mahogany and aren't lacking at all for high end snap. I'd say go for it!:AOK

I'm using nitrocellulose (sp?) lacquer. Thank you all for the helpful posts.

I am a big fan of ebony boards for the snappy attack. This is often an overlooked ingredient of the tone cocktail in my opinion. Have you decided on neck specs?

Another good thought. Thanks.

I appreciate the input from everyone. Other opinions are welcome before I let the sawdust fly.
