I'll be getting my J Design Vintage 112 next week and I'm trying to pick a speaker for it. It'll be running through my Dr. Z Prescription ES head. At 45 watts, I'd like to have an efficient speaker that'll reveal the RX's wonderful cleans, and give me a tone that is suitable for rock, blues, and alt-country. The Tonker seems like the way to go, but I'm curious as to what speakers would be equally impressive and come close to fitting my style, and the tone that the Tonker puts out.

Nothing, the Tonker is the new King of Speaker. ;)

But seriously, the Tonker cleans are incredible, and driven hard it will deliver just what the amp gives it with little coloration of it's own and no speaker breakup. If you've got a great sounding amp you will love it, because that is what you are going to hear. If you need the speaker to cover up some deficiency of the amp, you probably won't like it.

That's good choice. You made your amp sound big!

Love a Pro Reverb amp. I have the Governors in my 67' Pro Reverb,
the RW & Blues in my 65' Pro Reverb and the Tonker lite in another
Pro Reverb. All sound great! Red Ryder is good choice too.

I have the same configuration matched with my Mazerati head. A great combination.....both Tonker and Texas Heat work very well together. If I were going to use a 1-12 cab I would use a Tonker.

Definately!! I play strictly tele & this is a killer setup for me. The Pro Reverb with this speaker combination sounds huge...Great bottom end & great definition....I need to put this setup in my 66' Twin Reverb & see how it goes......Pro Reverb is definately my all time favorite amp.

I order mine from Musicians Friend since they have free shipping, or Parts Express. Avatar is great if you're near them..that's the only reason I use the other places more..FedEx ground takes over a WEEK to get from him to me. Parts Express always shows up in 2 days because they are closer to me.

Does the Tonker fizz at all when using distortion, and does it have a nice low mid hump? Just curious as I have one on the way. Thanks!

So, 59model, now that you've had the speaker for 4 months, how would you answer your own question?

Hi John, sorry it took so long to get back to you, moving and all. The Tonker rips with no fizz and great low mids, but by now you probably know that, LOL! Loved it in my Reinhardt and will get another for my TW Express clone I built as there kinda bright. The other good one is the Cannibus Rex that smooths the heck out of anything bright. Take care Bro! Pete

Totally agree.
Compared to my V30, blackback G12M25s 55Hz & 75Hz, I much prefer my Tonkers. Better cleans, and perfect with a crunchy sound.
