Hey guys, first post concerning a 1970 SF Twin

The reverb wire plugs are dead. I used to be able to jiggle them into compliance, but now no reverb

The ends look like they were shoddily soldered to some metal rca plugs, so is it possible to hook up brand new wires from the unit?

also, when the reverb volume is up, it is nothing but noise, and when I turn it down - no noise

thanks in advance,
yZe

reverb wires should simply plug and unplug from both ends. You can replace the entire wire.

Clean the jacks too, while you're at it!

One that age of an amp and all the wiggling you've done you may need to replace the jacks too.Try some new cables and see if their loose in the jacks.

Okay, wires unplugged.

I notice the ends have a shielded wire and then a seperate wire coming out which is soldered onto the plugs

Will any wire with 4 rca plugs do?
TIA,

I bought some of these for my restored 1969 Twin (installed a new Accutronics tank too) happy with them but you can probably get something cheaper at Rad Shack or a local electronics supplier:

There is this auction too:

Good luck!

You can check the cables with a DMM for continuity or a short . The prehistoric looking rca plugs Fender used are available but soldering them is tougher than most. While you're checking cables with the meter check the tankas well. I've found most reverb problems with the tiny wires connecting the tank jacks to the transducers.

You may also have a noisy tube in there, the reverb tube is a 12AT7 and I think the 3rd tube from the right facing the back of the amp. I have a '76 Twin I bought "New" and still love it! It's been easy on tubes and I've play'd 1000's of gigs with it.

yup, the new wires worked wonders

Now check this out;

only the power tubes and only one preamp tube and the reverb tube was working
I maxed all the volumes and it was pretty quiet. All you heard was a light shhhhh
