I'm looking at a "Tung-Sol EF806 SG / 6267" to try in the Normal channel of my Valvetech Hayseed. Is an ef806 the same thing as an ef86? If not exactly the same, are they interchangeable? If there is a difference, what is it?

Thanks.

looks like a higher voltage spec'd tube... pinout is the same, so it should work... how it sounds is another matter...

They are interchangeable, well, assuming that they meet the published specifications (which new production tubes rarely do, just ask Myles Rose from Groove Tubes who sell ONLY new production tubes).

In European tubes, when the number transposes from 86->806, or 83->803, the latter version is a compatible upgrade of the former version.

With rare exception, e.g. ECC88 and ECC808 are not compatible.

Same idea with reversing part of the code, it usually works, but there are exceptions... e.g. E83CC is an upgraded ECC83, but E80F is not compatible with EF80.

Myles has stated on the Dr Z amp forum that he will be testing the new tubes as soon as he can and he'll report his findings on that forum. I don't know if he will here or not.

Thanks for all of the responses. Hopefully Myles will share the info. here too.
