View Full Version : Anyone Using A Fralin High Output Tele Bridge?

I'm considering using this bridge pickup along with a Fralin P-92 in a project guitar and was wondering if anyone else here has tried it. I'm not caring too much about losing the twang, I like Tele bridge tone more in the P-90/Humbucker camp but I'm wondering how the pickups overall touch response and dynamics are. Anyone?

I had a Steel Pole 43 in my tele-mule. It was more tele than P-90 with lotsa output. It was pretty microphonic at higher volumes, but I dug it mostly. BUUUUUT, I didn't care for its voicing in the lower mids. Not enough snap, and that's strictly my preference of course. I now have a Fralin 5% overwind in the bridge, and I love it. It's my ideal tele tone.
My observations were through amps I no longer own (Alessandro, /13). I believe the SP43 might be a better match for the Emery's I'm now using. They love to be pushed.

I think the Fralin High Output is a 10% overwind to about 9.5k, I was thinking that would probably give me fat bridge pickup tone with some semblance of Tele snap. I did give the SP43 some thought, but I decided I wanted to keep a traditional look. Anyone else?

I have a Fralin Blues Special w/baseplate in my '68 bridge. I love it. It can have a very fat sound with some gain, yet it retains the tele authenticity for twang without ice pick treble.

Don Mare is winding some great tele pickups these days. He knows a lot about tele tones. Give him a call and at least talk to him about achieving the sound you are after. I don't have any real high output pickups from him, but the review on his higher ouput stuff have been great.

It's REALLY crazy that you say that because I was just playing around on his site and considering his work, since he really knows Teles! Thanks. Do you have anything that he's wound? If so, how'd you like it?

I have Don's 2324 Roy set in my ash bodied parts Tele. Amazing, just frickin' amazing!
These pups will give you Roy tone like you've never heard. Even if you're not that into Roy, they have incredible vintage vibe.
My pups are rewinds of a Fender Original Vintage set.
If you have questions, give him a call. He's a real nice guy. The first time I talked to him he plugged in so I could listen over the phone. He listens well to what tone you're after and can wind a set to your preference. He's also a great player.
Tell him "partscaster" sent you and says hello.

I have had many Duncans, Duncan Antiquities, Lollars, Fralins, True Tones, and Wolfs. These pickups do it for me.
