The VOS's finish is duller.

The VOS has aged hardware as well.

Not completely accurate........but not completely wrong either. Apparently this is the New Improved version of the Most accurate clone ever made. At this point you might as well wait 5 more years and get the new New new New improved model............:crazy

one diff. is that many older R8s (like a couple of '01s I'm very familiar with) have great but subtle flame... now they're plain tops. I usually am not a flame fan but the tops on those R8s are stunning... as time went on the flamier tops went to R9s.

umm...i dont understand this. If it isn't twice as much, then that statement is completely wrong. It can't really be 'sort of right' as phrased above. Prices *might* have gone up as much as $200 (depending where you shop from). From the price of $2400 (this would vary per dealer too i guess) an increase of $200 dollars is only an 8% increase........way off from 50%.

Didn't intend to mislead or confuse anyone with the "twice as much" comment, sorry. But, I've been recently looking at the '59 and 60 VOS Standard for myself and the ones I'm finding are in the $5000 range as opposed to the CS1958 Standards that I'm finding around 3g's. I guess the price depends on which VOS model you get. Some are more expensive than others. If anyone is finding a good price on them, please let me know where.

In 2005 you could purchase a "glossy" R8 for 2200 to 2400 new.

2006 R8 VOS (non glossy with "aged" hdwe) street around 2500 to 2700
2006 R8 Glossy (non VOS with glossy finish and shiny hdwe) street around 2900 to 3100

The 59 and 60 models have always been about twice as much. Historic LPs are almost all VOS this year unless it was a special order.

And, im not sure if this is true for the whole, but the VOS LP special i have doesn't have a 'dull' finish persay. It might not look like glass, but it definitely has some shine to it.

I, personally, would not have noticed a different...especially after cleaning the guitar. (the hardware is aged a bit though.)

Agreed, looked at one today in Guitar Center and it is not that noticable. I kinda dig it but I am not too picky when it comes to aesthetics.

Why is that? What makes a differnet neck profile and some flames worth so much more? Is there anything else to it?

Supposedly they get the best wood.
