View Full Version : Glaswerks 90's voicing - Take 3
Here is another take with suggestions from Scott.
Wow, what a difference! The amp opened up quite a bit and starting to "sing". Changed a bit how I played too.

This sounds better than your last clip - although that clip sounded nice as well.

Thanks Les I will try that later. Where did you have the clean channel gain? Since the overdrive channel builds on the clean channel it makes a difference.
I was running the clean channel gain around 5 and the drive at 9 and I don't think it sounded as saturated and creamy as yours did.
Man it sounded like you were having a good time. ;)

Sorry, I forgot to add the gain level:
Gain: 7.5
For my previous clip (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getpl...683&q=hi&ref=2 (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4366683&q=hi&ref=2)) I had it set at 6.5 and Scott suggested that I turn it up to 7.5
Yeah, I love my Glaswerks. Last night I was playing around with different voicing's 70's, 80's (early) and 80's (late). They are all very nice, yet different. Personally, I'm after the Carlton tone and I'm getting close...
I'm tweaking my sound using a 64 335, using the neck pickup. This requires more high's to be added to compensate for the neck pickup.
The Take 3 clip was a Les Paul, on the bridge pickup.

I really like my clean channel gain up around 9-10 on the dial or about 3 O'Clock. Drive then is about 4 or so.

Hi les:
GREAT clip! I Like this tone the best but there're all great. If you don't mind, where did you have the Master set? Also, Treble, Mid, and Bass?
Thanks in advance
Chuck :)

I think the reason I like it so high is that the "gain" pot is an audio taper pot, so it comes on real slow. I think I read somewhere that at about halfway you are at about 10% of the gain, or something like that. Anyone?

I'm not sure if it's only 10% when you're halfway, but I have just changed the Gain and Master Volume pots in my Fuchs mod from linear to audio, and I like the change a lot. I find it's (now) much easier to dial in the "in between" tones that before the change seemed elusive, and yes, when I'm going for more of a RF "saturated" type of tonality I have my gain set around 1 or 2 o'clock as well. (with the old linear pots it was usually set around 11 o'clock)
Assuming that Larry Carlton's Dumble(s) have audio taper pots, (saw him in Seattle about 2 months ago) he started out the show whith his Gain (clean volume) set around 1 o'clock and ended the show with it at 3 o'clock.

I had a friend, who owns a late 80s modded Dumble, measure the taper of all of the audio pots in the amp. They were all 30% taper. So, with todays audio tapers, you'd need to be a number or two hotter if you are trying to "copy" settings.
Fwiw....

Thanks for the comment.
The master was set at approx 2/2.5
I'm using the 90's voicing settings, which uses internal trimmers for the tone stack. So the Treble, Mid and Bass settings are not functional in this mode.
