Higher gain... a little more grainy harmonics... I like them better than the JJ's!
Thanks,

Awesome tone! Nice playing too. Mine should be here soon! Some higher gain 90's voicing clips would be great, could you post some more rock oriented stuff? Thanks, Marc..

Les, sounds really nice. I bet even better when you swap V5 for V1 ;)

Playing was great as usual.
The guitar sounded a little out of place in the mix. Like it wasn't in the same room, off in the back ground or had a blanket over it. The tone was good by itself but didn't sound like it fit the backing track correctly. As you can tell that bothered me and distracted my ability to properly judge or listen to the guitar tone by itself. Obviously that isn't what your purpose was for this post and I am off on a tangent but I wanted to make the point as it really makes a huge difference. If the over all mix sounds right the guitar will naturally sound better.

I agree... As you can tell, I am still working on (or struggling with) getting my recordings to sound better. It sounds so much better in person. I believe I am loosing some quality during either the recording process or the conversion to mp3.
BTW, FWIW - your comments are always appreciated by me :dude
Here's a new version that *might* sound better. Excuse the playing...

Hi les, I like the first takes tone a lot. This second one has too much reverb, IMHO. :-)
You've got some licks!!!

Nice playing as usual.
I have to agree with the comment that there is too much reverb. But on the other hand this sounds like a real live recording not the best live recording, but like this could be the natural sound recorded live with everybody there on stage all at one time. Part of that is that the over all tone or timber had the same quality and ambiance, like it was bouncing off the same ceiling.
The guitar had a right there in the middle of the group feel where the first clip felt like it was added or the guitar player was hiding in a closet while everybody else was on stage.
I think the guitar tone of that clip was terrific a bit brighter or just that the artifacts that are in the upper frequency weren't filtered out even though the main tone was mostly in the mids. It didn't have that blanket over the amp feel.
I really liked it.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your comments. I agree that there is a tad too much reverb, but as you say it does sound better than the first mix. One thing that is clear is that my recording technique needs some work.:messedup The amp sounds so much better in person!
I am using a Boss 1600CD for the recording board and *frankly* everything I record (bass, drums, keys and guitar) sound muffled during playback. I need to spend some time dialing in a better sound.

No luck there either. I can download other clips if the link takes me to the soundclick page. If I get that javascript page nothing happens.

The tone sounds like a muffled Dumble. On your playing, I gotta say, there's some nice stuff there, but it feels like your trying to run before you can walk. For instance, there's a lot of out of tune notes and a lot of landing phrases right on the root. I suggest trying to play less notes, but focus on hitting the sweet ones and getting them all in tune. The first step would be to learn the melody for that tune. It's pretty easy. Then try to add some cool things into it, without losing the melody.
Sorry if you weren't looking for feedback on the playing. (Last Point: I'm not saying I'm any better. In fact these are the same sorts of things that I work on).
Cool amp!

That would be Les's mic and lame Boss recorder. Here is the exact same amp recorded by Fig. OM2 mic. Listen to the guitar bits and tell me that you have heard anyones clips come close to this for this flavor. www.gwillmusic.com/media/lookup.mp3 The tone sounds like a muffled Dumble.

Hey Les. I finally figured it out. It was my anti virus program setting.
Really like the tone/playing.
Question: With independent master volumes for each channel, can you go from a edgy rhythm/blues tone to the RF tone on the fly?
Also, I'd like to hear it with a Strat. Both channels.
Scott L. really knows RF tone, eh?

Yes, as long as the edgy rhythm/blues tone is from the clean channel. You can basically switch from the clean channel to the od channel. As far as I know, there isn't a way to switch from one od setting/tonestack to another.
Fig has posted some very nice clips with a strat:

Yes, Scott has got the ears for tone. They don't call him old dog ears for nothing :dude

Nice chops Les, and the Glaswerks sounds pretty damn good, I'm on the list !! (Hi Gary)
I got to play Scott's SOD 50 and well ... I'm on the list, right Gary?? ROFL !!
Ok, so I gotta ask ... how do you guys do the backing tracks?? and how/what are you using to record yourself? I am obviously way behind on this stuff.
Keep up the great work !!!

OK Les...Tell me about your 80's settings. I've really only been messing with the 90's voice, since I like it so well, and haven't had much if anytime to experiment. I always think I'm gpoing to screw with my settings, but then I find myself at the gig saying, "I know I like it like this, so I better leave it alone". No time for twiddling knobs.
So what are your current 80's settings, and have you messed around with any of the internal trimmers?

Bright: off
Shift: Center
Voice: Down
Fat: Down
OD Trim: Down
OD Stack: Down
Feedback: Up
Suppressor: Up
Gain: 7
Treble: 6.5
Middle: 9
Bass: 6.5
Master: 3
Drive: 7
Level: 3
Reverb: 3
Presence: 6
Mid Boost: Off
Boost: On
Overdrive: On
I have not tweaked any of the internal trimmers. Only changes so far are Tung-Sol pre-amp tubes (which I like much better than the JJ's).
The above settings are a good starting point and you can dial in for personal taste.
Have fun!
Les
Try setting the Voice on the center position and see how you like it.

Thanks guys! I'll write down my current settings and at my gig this weekend I'll try these out, but keep my "default settings close by so I can bail if I'm feeling out of place LOL!
