So this puppy has been in the works for quite a while now. In June Ron had run it through the paint booth. It came out looking fantastic, but I had wanted it to be a very light blue and both of us were shocked at how dark it came out. Ron really wanted to repaint it, and I really wanted him to, but I also suddenly got the bug to get teh guitar asap so teh added months were going to be tough. I ended up going ahead and being patient and asked him to go ahead and repaint it.
Here is the original paint

And here it is now after Ron repainted it.

THe subtle fingernail burst on it now is absolutely perfect!!! I also like the fact that the face in the quilt REALLY pops now, where on the original paint it got lost a bit in the burst. Both paintjobs are jsut stunning, and the original paint I think was a lot more unique, but the shade of Blue that it is now is EXACTLY what I had pictured when I ordered the guitar. Granted I am sure its a few shades darker when it isnt getting blasted by camera flash.

Awesome, Bill! You're a patient man :)
And what's wrong with the first blue? Looks Whale Blue to me. What else could you ask for? ;)

i think the redone finish does a better job of highlighting the amazing quilt pattern, mesmerizing.

Both are magnificent but I prefer the second paint job. Good call sticking with your original vision.
The lighter shade of blue does a better job of highlighting that gorgeous quit top

Hey Pai
The ex-wife couldnt tag me for one that wasnt completed yet!! LOLOL And I still have the Driskill and the London...all I need now is time to learn how to play with raiseing the 2 kids on my own and all.
Hey Dave, my sentiments exactly!! When I posted this and saw the 2 versions in the same post my first thought was "Maybe I should quick put another on order and tell Ron I want the original color" because its absolutely fantastic also. Although if that was the case I guess I would need to put 20 Thorns on order because I have yet to see one come out of Rons shop that isnt to absolutely die for.
Dan, I agree its a killer color, no doubt, but I was really looking for a matteo blue type top with a small burst that will go with the rest of what is planned for the guitar. The top is just one VERY small piece of what is going to make this a jaw dropper.

Both look great but at the risk of being unpopular I prefer the original paint. I tend to like my blue's with grey/black in them. It is a heartstopper for sure. Very nice!!!

Yeah, I mentioned the same thing on the Thorn Forum. I think some of the color differences has to do with the lighting as well. The first job is in so/so lighting and the 2nd is in bright light. I think the difference might be less dramatic if both were shot in the same lighting.
Either way, they both are smokin' hot.
