Sorry to interrupt briefly.... but curious as to how to officially check out cost and wait time on these? I've mailed JG guitars (sales@jgguitars.com, being outside of the U.S.) a few times this year, never received a response.

I believe the current cost is $8500 US and the wait time could be as long as 2 years or more...

These guitars have, by far, the closest tone to a real Les Paul sunburst(from the 50's). They have all the desirable tonal features of a burst....the double tones, the hollow growl, the complexity of notes....all of those superlatives, which, when I see myself using them.....I get embarassed!:crazy

Okay ......before I show my JG, tell me something.....how many Bluesmasters has Johan made. And......what does the serial number reflect? Is it consecutive guitars or year or what?

Now.....Let me just say this. Of paramount importance to me is how great this guitar sounds. It is THE best sounding guitar of this nature I have ever heard. Playability is also right up there. It is a dream to caress.
Myself and a few friends recently had a little LP/JG shootout. There were many types of LP's there. 50's,Historics,Non-Gibson replica's(well known builder's) and hands down this guitar was the clear superior. In terms of tone and playability.
Not to mention.......she no look too bad either

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Petefaragher/DSC01016.jpg

One thing I love about it visually is the on/off flame. As you can see in the above picture it is very....ON
Here is one off the ...OFF pix

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Petefaragher/DSC00992.jpg

For those of you that have not seen one in the flesh, here is a rare shot of the heel. Makes for easy playing way up high....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Petefaragher/DSC01021.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49/Petefaragher/DSC01009.jpg

All I can say in conclusion is.....Since getting this guitar I have played more. Taken this baby to every gig. Which is really what it is all about...isn't it????

cheers
Pete

I'm urious about scale lengths:
I have seen that JG offers three different scale lengths. How does this affect the sound, which one do you prefer?

Do the longer scale ones approach the 'bursts sound too, or is it true only for the short scale ones?

out of your two which do you like better?

i actually got to hold one the other day. you can definately tell that the neck is very different than your standard les paul neck. im definately interested as i always wanted a les paul, but i cant get along with the necks on them for some reason. the one i held might be pictured in this thread, im not sure.

a few questions when ordering them.
1. are there any options
2. is there a current wait time
3. are they available in both stoptail and trem?

Pete's JG neck feels very much like a vintage LP neck - I've got two 50's LP conversions and the JG's is similar to my 56 conversion.

Also, is it my eyes fooling me, or is the Korina JG thinner than the other ones shown in this thread?

$8500 is a helluva lot for a new guitar. But if these guitars really are the best "Les Pauls" made, and the demand is there, I 'spose that justifies the pricetag...

Do these ever turn up used? What is the used price generally?

I trust he winds the pickups himself?

Newby here weighin' in.

I've got two Jo's, an 03' with P90's (it's shown to the right on Johan's web page) I bought it new, and an 04' with Seth Lovers I bought used. (I've since put a 59' in the bridge, but the SL STAYS in the neck!) Suffice it to say I paid more for the used 04' than the new 03'.

I had been looking for a LP style P90 guitar forever and had played so many guitars that I thought I'd never find one. I was at Wildwood playing some really fine P90 instruments - none inspiring enough for me to even considering a purchase. Steve said, oh man I got the guitar for you, out came the P90 Jo (seymour antiquities) and 30 minutes later I made the decision to part with waymore cash than I had ever thrown at a guitar.

You guys think the HB's are something (and they are!) you should hear one with the 90's..... absolutely stunning.:AOK

I love my JG... but........the P-90 one you are talking about has always turned my crank beyond all others I've seen. And now to hear it is sonically fab (did I really expect it to be otherwise?) just kills me. Makes me want to order one. but I don't think I could stand the 3 year wait :messedup and the price tag 3 years from now. which will probably be about $130,000.00

Okay I'll ask again. Does anyone know know what the serial number reflects and how many Bluesmasters have been made???
I asked Matte in a private email and I didn't get a response so I guess he doesn't know. Maybe Steve from Wildwood? He brought them into the US no? I have been told two radically different stories. The first was that mine was among the first 200. The second was that there have been no more than 50 made.
Lets find out what that serial number represents.

Hey Pete,

I asked JG the same question. the answer is quite simple. the last two numbers represent the year, the first numbers represent the sequential production. ie, if the guitar said something like... 9303.... it would be the 93rd guitar ever produced and it was tagged in 2003.

BTW. if the P90 JO ever went to 130k it would NOT be for sale..... guitars like this really are fodder for an AMEX tag line.....ie, shuttle trip to venus, ...$1.5b, jamming on Venus with (pick one)EC, EJ, Stevie, etc... $2.4b, doing it with your Jo..... priceless.....

(however.... you come up with a 'b' and the Jo is yours) :JAM :D

No, Elmwood is made in Tanumshede, west coast in the middle of sweden, roughly a 5 hour drive from JG's shop in malmoe. But it's still cool to see such great talent (BJF JG and Elmwood to name a few) in a country as small as sweden. I think the population is around 9 million. And malmoe has about 900k

The separate tailpiece can allow some overtones that the wraparound won't. Some (like myself) dig this phenom. I prefer that setup on my own Classic and Apollo models.

While generally I prefer the tone of a wrap, they just don't work for me with the string gauges I use. For me, they will not stay in tune no matter how well set up or well intonated the guitar is. Also It just struck me as odd considering on the JG is straight out of the 59 paul mold but that. I wish I could check out the JG with my gauges, because I do much prefer the tone, and I've heard his wrap stays in tune killer.

what dimensions do you mean? like if you layed it down flat? or the thickness of the woods. i think if you traced the outline, you'd be closer to a tele (which is good since it sits better on your leg when not standing in my opinion). i think wood thickness of the mahog and maple is the same as a paul though.

These look like nice pieces and I'm sure they are great players but I'm not a big fan of mixing body styles of guitars (ie:PRS). If I want to play a tele, I play a tele, if I want to play a LP, I play a Gibson and so on. Nice tops though. Lets make no bones about it. These are EXPENSIVE guitars. And I had to let go of some really nice pieces to be able to afford it. But in the end, I have a guitar that is worth more than it's material price. I'm not a LP fan as far as ergonomics are concerned. But I would always have one or more around. I would buy and sell LP's (conversions, Historics) looking for the sound and the playability that worked for me. I have finally found those things in this guitar. I currently own no Les Pauls and am not looking. That in itself makes it worth it....IMHO. Let alone how good this guitar sounds and plays.
Not bad to look at either.

You need to re-read my original post. I don't OWN a '59 burst nor did I say that I do, though I have access to 2 of them through a couple of buddies that I gig with that have no problem letting me play them when I need or want to. The DeTemple '52 set me back about $4k so I can't buy a burst at this moment, but intend to after I get over the hurt of the DT. I'm an old school player, thus I play old school guitars, that's all. I do own a 2001 1960 Classic LP w/Dimarzio Virtual Vintage p/u's and it plays and sounds incredible, a definite "keeper" from the production line. I did own a PRS at one time but sold it because it just wasn't my cup of tea. Nice guitar as is the JG Bluesmaster, just not for me. Again, read my original post.

makes sense too. im also a big fan of the "old school" sounds of strats, tele's, and les pauls, but for some reason cant find a les paul i like. i have played a few nice VOS guitars but it was at guitar center and they were way too high on the price.

45BLUESMAN

I would never buy a guitar of that caliber from GC, overpriced for sure. I just got lucky on the 1960 Classic I came across. Don't stop looking. It took me over a year before this LP came along. I A/B'd with a '58 VOS plain top that was $2700 and could not tell the difference (the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage p/u's make a helluva difference). The Classic sounded as good if not better and I only payed $1300 and it has the slim taper neck that I like much better vs. the fat '50's neck on the VOS. Also the top on the Classic is plain in Honeyburst and has a better grain pattern than the VOS did. All in all, a great find for me. I still plan on getting a '59 burst, hopefully sometime in '07. Don't give up. There are great guitars out there to be had that people like you and me can actually afford. Good luck.

Thanks Man

The cool thing about it is that it was 3 years old when I got it and the finish has cured and hardend. I was told that it was Johan's personal guitar and he sure broke it in!! It is a wonderful guitar. The first thing I noticed that I hadn't read about was that it has a twang to it that I wasn't expecting. It fits my style perfectly. I did put the pickguard on it, which is burl wood, and it looks even better now. I have a friend in town that is a vintage snob that saw it and thought it looked ridiculous!! Can you belive that!! He played it and couldn't put it down. I consider myself very fortunate to have this exceptional guitar.

fretnot,

Everyone has an equal chance to get one. Fred W got one that is posted on this thread, 2 Teabursts were delivered in the past few weeks and I'm in the process of delivering the Goldtop, that Matte posted, to it's new owner. There are some back orders that Johan is preparing for delivery any moment now and a there will be another group of backorders delivered in January. After that, there will be the opportunity for folks to get a slot by simply being on the Gustavsson email list and replying when available slots are posted. There is no bidding and no selling and trading of slots as they are awarded on a first come first served basis with no deposit down. It's the easiest and fairest system and all you need do is participate and you'll have a very good chance of getting a slot and eventually a guitar.

Er, yeah, those DO look exactly like the sorts of chisels one picks up at Lee Valley, if you put a few thousand hours of work on them. They ARE NOT the types chisels one picks up in your local building center, I'll agree, but Lee Valley is hardly that, unless they have changed drastically.

That is Stanley one of the few Beauty of the Burst's that Gibson did in 2004. It has the real 59 serial number and a historic serial number. The program was stopped for many reasons the s/n thing being one of them. Stanley is on the cover of BOTB and this is one 3 or 4 that were made. They did a few Perry's, a couple one offs and then program was history.

imo, JG's guitars are simply the best looking LP style guitars I have ever seen. Only guitar I've seen that actually rivals a real LP for looks. I'd have to sell pretty much all of my gear to get one - and I contemplate this all the time....

Anyone know of any other clips other than those already posted in this thread? Any owners in Illinois that might be up for a demo session :)

Any comments on the split coil tones? I would not expect perfect strat tones, but are they anywhere close?

Cheers

My band had a gig last night, and I played my Bluesmaster all night. The split coils are VERY usable. We play several SRV tunes, and it served me well on every one of them. It's funny....every time I play the Bluesmaster, the other guitar player in the band says, "Damn that thing sounds good!":dude

Iced tea is the color. J of Z's is 141, which I think is also supposed to be iced tea. This is the first pickguard this color I've seen on a Gustavsson (or any guitar, for that matter).

They ship with the pickguard on, but I'm sure you could ask them not to drill the guitar and just put the pickguard in the case. Call me nuts, but even with that top, I like it with the guard.

i think it would be hard for gibson to source the materials of the gustavsson in order to get the quantity needed for the scale of their operation. getting the quality a little closer to that of the gustavsson, would be a step in the right direction though me-thinks.

im guessing that he went for it for the same reason as mr fuze posts about his with a similar setup here.

http://www.guitarsessions.com/jul06/rockblues.asp

easy to retune for different drone strings. need an A, tune to an A, need a B, tune to B the rest of the strings dont go out of tune. etc.

The Burst is 13406 and the Goldtop is 13105. They are both really great guitars. The burst weighs in at about 7.5 pounds and the goldtop at about 8. I had been waiting over a year for the burst(before the Gustavsson demand heated up) and heard about the goldtop comming up for sale, these things move fast so I jumped on it, best gear purchases of my life. I have received several emails about possibly selling one and I can say that these are keepers for me and will never be for sale, my last two guitars. They have really enhanced my playing and my life. If you are looking for one email Cliff at www.destroyallguitars.com (http://www.destroyallguitars.com) . He is a knowledgable pro who knows his stuff. I think he is the only source for these guitars from here on in.
