Are the Marshall type electrolitic cap cans (LCR) as good as having individual Sprague electorlitic caps for the filter caps in amps?

It is odd to me how big the Sprague caps are in comparision to the small cap cans. I know the cap cans are good when there is not much room for caps. Why are the Spragues so big and the cap cans so small?

I am about to start a JTM45/Bluesbreaker build and I can go either way, so that is why I ask. I am sort of a Fender guy, so the Spragues are what I am used to (other than the small Champ and Princeton amps). I noticed that the new Marshall Hendrix amp has the larger Sprague type caps (except for one cap can), so I guess Marshall used both as well. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks

Hard to say if one is really better than the other. It's a matter of needed space too. The advantage of individual caps is that you can replace one of it goes bad compared to the whole enchilada cap can. Also, you can tweak the filtering using single caps. I've used 'em both and could go either way. I don't know how many varieties of cap cans there are available either.

It depends on which cap cans we're talking about. LCRs were definitely high quality, some of today's imported cans are not. The RTs (?) from Germany are about the best quality you'll find today.
