hey guys, it's finally time to change the tubes in my diezel. but ive ran into a bit of a problem. for some reason none of the tubes in my head are labelled with type or manufacturer on them. i know ive got the 6L6'S For power tubes, and im fairly certain they're svetlana's (ive had good experiences with sveltana's so i bought those to replace with) and theres 6 12ax7 type preamp tubes of which i have no idea who made these...im using electro harmonix to replace these...by reading the manual it says that one of the 12 ax7's is actually supposed to be a 12 AT7 and act as a phase inverter.....my question would be : do any of you guys know which slot i would put the 12 at7 tube in the line of 6? first on the left? or last on the right? any idea?
any help would be great. thanks guys

I would expect to find the phase inverter closest to the power tubes , 12ax7's and 12at7's are interchangeable so you won't hurt anything.

If you go to Rig-Talk.com there is a dedicated Diezel forum which Peter Diezel frequents. I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions there.

Hi Scoeb, phase inverter would logically be farthest from the input jack and closest to the power tubes as mentioned above. I have a message in to Uwe on your behalf to confirm.
The Ruby Tubes that come with the amps are available through us or I could check and refer you to a local dealer if you're on the road. You can search these pages and the Diezel forum, soom people have tries other tubes and if done in pairs, you can mix types ie 4 6l6 and 2 el34 etc. .....I'm more on the side of replacing, rebias and play.
The power tubes would be the ones to replace first btw, preamp tubes aren't taxed as much. Typically the first pre-amp tube is the most critical one tonally so some swapping can be useful (closest to the input jack).
