View Full Version : Anybody Out There Using a TC Electronic G-Sharp Processor?

I just got a TC Electronic G-Sharp processor as a deal closer when I got my Joe Satriani Signature Model JS1000BP. So far I've run it in the FX loop of my Budda Super Drive 45. Not bad. I'm gonna need to find a cheapo MIDI pedal to send program change messages t it to switch patches, but I do like what I've heard so far - very good sounding reverbs and a pretty decent sounding chorus (TC Electronic - shouldn't be surprised). Tonight I'm draggin' my Fuchs BlackJack 21 to rehearsal - no FX loop. In theory (read it somewhere) the G-Sharp works well in either position - in front of an amp or in an FX loop. Anybody out there using one?

I'll bump you, because I've been considering one myself.

So far I'm liking it a lot. Great sounding reverbs, decent delays as well. I haven't really delved into it full-bore yet. Probably tomorrow afternoon. I just mounted it in the "Budda Bucket" (single-space rack built into the back of my Budda 4x10 Twinmaster combo). Very easy to tweak/dial up sounds - no menus to scroll through. It's not as programmable as my old Alesis Quadraverb Plus (changing the order of effects, multiple effects stacking, etc), but for adding reverb and delay or chorus or flanger, it's pretty decent. Digital effects horsepower has increased since the Quadraverb days. When I bought it years and years ago, the Quadaverb was state-of-the-art. The G-Sharp sounds far warmer and more organic. With a MIDI foot controller, it'll be very gigable. I'll do a full review once I've had a chance to really become familiar with it.
Peace,
jb

It's a great piece in the effects loop of a non-reverb amp.

Looking forward to a review. BTW, I've never heard of a "Budda Bucket."

What is the effects loop of the SD-45 like? Does it color the tone and does it change the over all volume of the amp.

Please, tell us more!
I'm seriously considering the G-Sharp as an all-in-one delay/reverb/modulation box for home use.
How does the sound quality compare with (a) a multi-fx system, and (b) a bunch of good stompboxes?

And the other strictly Effects..

Note I didn't say multi-effects because while you can use either engine alone or both together, you cannot "stack" effects, e.g. Chorus + Delay, which is fine by me because it's something I never do anyway. It's TC Electronics, so the sound quality is primo. You've got some options for controlling it via MIDI or a three button (momentary-type) footswitch unit they call a G-Switch, but it's easy enough to make one if you've got the parts and are handy with a soldering gun.

Thanks, NyteOwl.
Looks ideal for the guitarist who's got a good amp and some overdrive stompboxes and needs just a few other decent quality effects (i.e.: me!).
It surprises me that there isn't more rack discussion on the board. I understand guitarists who want something simple that doesn't have a thousand buttons and a confusing LED display, but the G-sharp bypasses all of that. It seems just like having a bunch of stompboxes in a rack (plus the ability to save presets).

So far I've written a few patches for specific songs in my band's set list, otherwise I leave the reverb on its "Club" setting, and the delay set to "Slapback". Controlling it with a MIDI Mouse footpedal.
Still in the experimentation phase, but I'm really liking the thing

Hey Troubleman, I just got this thing too and I think its going take the Dl-4, Clone Chorus, Holy Grail and Retro Sonic Phaser off my board.
Does the Midi Mouse let you change presets, bypass and do tap tempo?

I've got a Rocktron Midi Mate controller I'm trying to sell. Mint condition.

Just steps up or down through patch changes. I could use an upgrade to something more sophisticated..

I found a old ADA MC-1 to use with it...Its nice with 9 presets right in front of me but it has no CC control so I guess that means no tap tempo.

Does the Midi Mouse let you change presets, bypass and do tap tempo? You can do these things with that 3-button G-Switch I mentioned, but not all at the same time. The switch can be used in one of two modes. In Mode A Switch 1 is Preset Up, Switch 2 is Preset Down and Switch 3 is Bypass; in Mode B Switch 1 is Bypass Effects Engine, Switch 2 is Bypass Reverb Engine and Switch 3 is Tap Tempo. You can, however, control more parameters using a more advanced Midi Foot Controller.
Hi Folks,
Just searched this thread out. I have one too and like it for its simplicity. I think it sounds just fine. I think the G-Minor switch from T.C. is the ticket for this thing because it has a tap tempo switch assigned to CC80 (G Major) and that's the same control channel used on the G Sharp. $129 for the G-Minor.
My only concern is that the G-Minor took a bashing when it was first released as an unreliable POS. I might pop for one and return it in 30 days if it breaks. Thoughts?

MikeI stayed away from the G-minor for that same reason. The Tech-21 Midi Mouse is in that same price range and has no reliability problems that I'm aware of.

So how is the G -sharp working straight into the front of the amp? My favorite amps have no fx/loops.

I have mine right in front of my Bassman. It sounds great but you need to make sure you have a buffer between your guitar and the G-Sharp....otherwise, its bad

I use the G Major ni the studio. It sound very nice, and it's not noisey. I recommend it highly for studio work.

Hey guys. I'm close to ordering this unit. I want to know if you can get a good dotted quaver style delay out of it, using the timing control. Cheers
