I need to hear from any of you out there that have or had one of these. I would like to know if the harmony part sounds like your guitar and not fake/digital. I would spend the extra bucks and get one if it sounds real. I have an inexpesive Lexicon unit and also an old Digitec IPS 33 but I would like to upgrade if the Evendide is up to the task. Thanks.

I have the Boss HR-2 and it doesn't really deliver harmonies that sound like a real guitar. However, for $100, there are a lot of crazy sounds you can get out of it. So, on to the real harmonizer content...

I haven't personally heard Eventide's on guitar...they are quite commonly used on vocals for live performances, and sound subtle and great when mixed in properly.

BTW, how do the Lexicon and Digitech units you have now sound? I spent $100 on the HR-2, but have always been intimidated by the $1k+ I figured it would cost to go with a rack unit like the Eventide (don't really know anything about the Lexicon/Digitech)... How much do those run?

been using them since they first dropped, in the late "80s. i've had 2 3000s, a 3500, 2 4000s, an orville and 2 eclipses. i have an eclipse in my guitar rig rack. the ability to use a number of inputs (i use spdif with a motu micro express to send tempo info from dp to my eclipse) is brilliant.
any of the eventide boxes from the 3000 on sound fine in a mix and the user definable scale mode keeps the parallel motion harmony thing that is totally corny from being an issue.

I have a few Eventides, Lexicons, Digitechs, Rocktrons, TC Electronic pieces that do harmonizing. The TC G-Force does some decent stuff and so does the Digitech DHP series, but the Eventide to me is the standard. Remember though the user interface on Eventide H3000 is a complex thing, plus you will have a loss of sound when you switch presets.
The BOSS harmonizer pedal is a very rudimentary compared to any of the above mentioned pieces in regards to harmonizing. If you can get a H3000 series unit for a good price get it, once you play through one, you'll know what many rave about their tone.
Eventides reverbs/pitch shifting and delays are stellar, but depending on how deep you want to go, there are computer based interfaces for programming them. Typical Eventide manual comes in a 2" thick three ring binder.

I have extensive experince with this box (created the Crystal Echoes patch) back in the Year One for them. The 3000 has been clearly replaced with the newer models including the Eclipse and though the pitch shifting alg is VERY good it does not sound quite like the original signal and will for sure introduce the munchkin effect on the sound as you get up to thirds, fourths and above.
These days REALLY good pitch shifting with corrected harmonic content is done in the computer with things like Pitch Doctor, Antares etc. You can for sure get away with the H3000 in a band context live but for real harmonically correct shifting you might not be happy....try it first before buying. The interface can be daunting. That said the things CAN do are amazing, sound quality is AMAZING and texturally all the devices since the 3000 are incredible sound shaping tools. Absolutely TOP quality sound.
FWIW, Van Halen used one for his brown sound = right output shifted down about 5 cents, left side up about 7 cents with some predelay on each side. A stanndard setting for a rich stereo spread.

Many thanks to all who plugged in here, esp. the guys with the Eventide/etc high end rack experiance. I would love to try before buying a 3000 ultra but I have only seen them on e-bay and I don't think they would agree to that. However if I get one for $700-900 and can't get along with it I should be able to re-sell and not lose much $$$$. Gratefull regards, Jim.

I have an H8000FW and use it for guitar application, and it RULES!!! You CAN make it sound munchkinized if you want to, but it sounds so musical that's why Steve Vai, Satriani, EVH, and the like use them. I don't know if they're using the newest model currently, I DOUBT IT>
Anybody know specifically what Corgan/Pumpkins used this box of tricks for?
