Looking for a combination delay & reverb unit; it need not have much more than that, but the ability to run both simultaneously would be necessary.
As far as how many kinds and how tweakable those delays & reverbs are - I don't know...that would be a price-point comparison, for me.
I know the Lexicon stuff is highly regarded, but all the various different models have me scratching my head...
I'm thinking more in terms of live guitar rig than studio outboard applications.
Any recommendations?

Howdy Ken - Perhaps this would get a bit more attention in the Effects/pedals/etc. section... I'll move it for you.

There are about 10 threads a week on delay. Just read whats in front of you.

Question isn't about delay - it's about delay/reverb in one unit...
What's that about "read what's in front of you"? ;) <just teasin'>

Thanks Wayne -
Just so it's "Out in front of you" -
I'm looking for a reverb/delay unit, probably rackmount, really just trying to steer my way through the various Lexicon models, as I mentioned and trawling to see if anyone knows of something that compares to the Lexis in that regard...

The only one I know in pedal format is the Boss one RV-3 I think, had one for a while, sounds nice with the right adapter, sounded better in a mix than by itself though...

Me too.
Seems like there are a ton of boxes with reverb and delay at all sorts of price points but I really don't have a clue which ones will sound good enough that I won't want to eventually replace them.
For recording my ambience is all in the box (UAD) but I still want a good quality piece of hardware to play with my amps.
Anyone tried one of these?

I have a Huges & Kettner Replex which has both and is tube driven. The delays are really excellent, although slightly colored. The reverb is pretty weak and I never use it. I use either a holy grail through a Dr.Z MAZ jr or use the internal 'verb on a Carr Slant 6.
The Replex is a very big pedal but the delay is really lush and dimensional with alot of tweaking room. It's definitely worth the price IMO.

Hey Ken -
I own a t.c.electrics G-Major, and I don't like it. I think the highs are brittle in the reverb patches.
I like Mark Robinson's Intellifex. It's easy to program, it sounds good, and you can get 'em used for like $200. I'm going to buy one pretty soon myself, I believe.
My experience,(and Dave Freidman's of Rack Systems) is the the Lexicon stuff sounds very musical, very rich programming and algorithms, but it's pricier. Friedman told me this, I bought a G-Major anyway, and now that I've used it awhile, I think Dave was right.
Lexicon - pricey but sounds real good.
Intellifex - not as pricey, sounds good.
My $.02, Dana O.

i'd suggest the lexicon mpx1 (used, you can get them for about 350+/-). i CAN be used as a studio reverb... it's that good. below that i personally wouldn't bother. the lxp 1s and 5s are great and have a beautiful (imho) older school sound but are pretty impossible to get fixed and are a little tough to program. if you want to go nuts, find a used pcm80 or pcm70. they're awesome too and the market is really soft on them.
all due respect to dana, but i don't think the intellifex even comes vaguely close to any of the ones i mention.

Thanks Dana - I'd rather go for sound, at this point, so I'm willing to save up my pennies and get one of the Lexicons if they're that much better. Does Freidman have a favorite, just out of curiosity?

Thanks Andrew - and the MPX1 is a 'multi' unit, right? So there's other bells & whistles to go along?
I used to have those half-rack LXP 1's & 5's a long time ago. I remember calling Lexicon customer service about something with them and they told me that the slang around the shop was that they were 'user sadistic', as opposed to 'user friendly'.
What about the various other MXP's, the 500? 550? Or the PCM's? Anyone?

Thanks - I have one of those, which is sorta what's inspiring this question, because I like the concept but I want more programming flexibility and a higher sound quality.

I believe Matte, scottl, and splatt (?) were talking up the Eventide Eclipse, but - man - I know nothing about it... May be more than you need.
Still food-for-thought and perhaps worth a chat w/ them cats...

Right, I figured once we started talkin' Lexi PCM's, etc., we were getting up into Eclipse territory, pricewise - if that's where I'm headed I'm willing to save up the dough - but as you say, it might be a lot more than I need, and 'user friendliness' is a pretty big issue for me since, you know, I play guitar for a living...

I think splatt tried out a new t.c. electrics processor recently and found it lacking too .... I searched for it, but I couldn't find it. The algorithim writing that Lexicon does is somewhat legendary, and that's where the rubber really meets the road in reverb programming.
I've been surprised at the Intellifex - sounds good, easy to work, not expensive.
What are you yourself liking right now? I heard this one at NAMM :http://www.damagecontrolusa.com/gnx.htm
from Damage Control - not a rack mount, but it sounded good ...

Onboard amp reverbs. I have an old Boss GX-700 multi effect with reverb & delay. The Boss RV-3 reverb/delay pedal. But after playing around with those two Boss units for a while, I just feel like digging a little deeper.
if it'll do verb and delay at the same time
<my 70 won't but i think the 80 might>
the lex PCM 80 is one of, some would say the, best sounding processors ever made
