Can I mount my spring reverb tank/bag vertically on the inside of my combo? Would horizontally on it's side be a better option ala' bogner shiva?

Any advice would be appreciated!

As long as the springs didn't contact the bare metal of the tank, it should be okay. I recall seeing foam between the springs & the tank on some units.

The tank on my Fender reverb unit is mounted on its side - it works fine. When I set the unit on its face (making the tank horizontal) the reverb doesn't work.

Technically that's not correct. If you go to the Accutronics website, http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/prodspec.htm
you will see that there is 6 different mounting planes and they make their tanks different for each plane.

I think (don't quote me on this) that what they do is use different mounting holes for the 4 small springs that float the main coils and springs. This way they can center the physical load within the tank depending on which way you mount it.

It all makes sense although I'm not sure you can hear the difference. I never really tried it. I just ordered the correct tank from them depending on which way I was going to mount it.

i have a vertically mounted reverb tank (accutronic 3 spring, type 8) in my gibson ga15rv, that's how they came from the factory, and i've never had any issues! :)
