Kind of an odd question, but lately I've been picking up CB radios and tonight I'm officially picking up AM/FM radio on my amplifier. I heard a small amount of talking in the background so I cranked it up all the way and discovered at least 3 different radio stations (talk, music etc.) all going on at once. During the day, its usually this one trucker (funny stories) but very annoying. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody else had this problem some time in their life. Is there any way it can be fixed? My amp is a Gibson Goldtone GA-30RVS and I'm using a Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus. The one solution I came up with it is moving it away from the windows, but due to the furniture there's really no other free space or lack of a free outlet.

This is a common problem. Check this thread. (http://thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=191778)

OH great! a illegal powered trucker.. probably running 1000 watts.. that will mess with you if he is close.

I take it, you have tried other guitar cable etc? just the right length or a ground lifted can induce this. and if you turn your amp 90 degrees does it change the station? lol sorry! but does it make it go away or pick up something different?

usually its a grounding or a freq resonance thing.

I remember my first experience with speaker excitment. nothing connected to the speaker, it was making radio noise. Wow.. I am not drinking that anymore! lol.. just happend the voice coil length was perfect resonance for it.

oh.. if you can find some brass mesh, you can cover the back of the amp and isolate. brass mesh will absorb/block radio wave very well. small peice of mesh will help you locate the problem area in the amp.

Ah I'll build a Faraday cage and play inside it!lol! Seriously,I'll have to check the ground on the outlet- one of mine is inproperly grounded! Thanks Bob

I don't feel so bad, even the professional muscians have the problem of interference.

You can usually fix this by adding grid resistors to your amp. Something between 10K and 100K will usually do the trick (especially on V1). The most common value is 68K.

I pick up a little radio later in the evenings sometimes when I'm running my little Gibson GA-5 with a Willis "Texas Fuzz". It's that old timey religious stuff. It hasn't happened enough to be a bother yet. I kinda get a kick out of it.

On Chris Whitley's "Living with the Law" there's a brief part between songs with staticy stuff from the bible. Something like " . . . and when David was a young man . . ." where some of this fades in and out. It makes me wonder if Chris Whitley got the idea from picking up some southern gospel on his guitar rig.

When I used to use two WEM Clubmans I'd always pick up Taxi Radios. Anyone for Wembley Park?

Best, Pete.
