View Full Version : Who here has the best pedal collection?

smilefan
12-16-2006, 03:06 PM
I dont have jack for pedals. Stage Hog, Honeybee, and Uncle Spot
Reverb (ok, outboard, not a pedal).

Who's got a killer TGP pedal slut-approved collection?
Make me (us) jealous, throw down for your excess.
Tell us about your collection!

Marko has 198 pedals, most of which are booty-que.

Dude is like 8.

Just kidding Marko!

Smilefan,

Okay, I'll go first but let me say that "best" is very subjective. Here goes;

I currently have:
Empress Tremolo
70's Ibanez AD9
70's Ibanez FL9
Peterson Strobostomp
Barber Tone Press
TIM
Landgraff OD
Diamond Fireburst
Klon
Analogman Clone Clone w/Deep switch
Toneczar Echoczar
Toneczar Powerglide

Just sold:
Menatone Fish Factory
Hot Cake Bluesberry

That's all.

Correct, I was playing the FF today. Its a hard one to dial in. I think the bright cap in my amp is causing problems getting it to sound really full and not so brash. Either way, its a nice addition to my pile.

Define "best" - most, or best selected?

Mine is...

BJF Mint Green Mini Vibe (unique replacement for the overdone trem/univibe sound) > Hellbilly (combo fuzz/rangemaster) > BJF Green Apple Fuzz (nasty 60s fuzz tones) > Custom Zendrive "red dot" prototype (from Dumble to JCM900 gain) > Lovepedal 22 (Vox flavored OD) > BJF Dyna Red Distortion (Marshall flavored OD) > BJF Honey Bee (final OD sweetener) > BJF Little Red Trebler (pedal version of the bright switch on a Fender amp).

The order is determined by modulation > Fuzz/pre-amp pedals > OD/power-amp pedals > final tone control/boost.

Waiting on a BJF Pale Green Compressor and a Baby Pink Booster. I will probably order the BJF Delay when it is released.

Sometimes I wonder if these forums help breed these "collections". I mean honestly unless your a session/studio musician who needs to cop any sound in the known universe, how does one find their uniqueness with so much gear? I guess there's nothing wrong with collecting though, people spend their money on worse that's for sure.

I am only up to about 615 pedals or so not counting midi footcontrollers or multi effects unit. I don't have my MXR/Ross/Electro Harmonix stuff, well maybe a few of those brands.

Non-Digital Tom's collection is very impressive, he has allot of cool/rare pedals.

I won't bother listing them all, I think about 400 of them are in the photos on webshots. The pics on webshots are about 40% of my gear. I stopped a few years ago from posting stuff over $1000 in value, I have only left up what was already was there.

Left and right are same collector, new and vintage. Who would have more than one czar?

I used to have a serious vintage addiction. A buddy called me to see if I wanted to buy his original univibe and octavia as a package deal. I can actually remember thinking, "OK I know Ive already got one of each, and I only have enough cash in my account for rent and bills which are in a week, but these have got to sound a bit different than mine, and its such a steal!"

Hey Mike, what year are your blue fuzzfaces and are they si or germ? I sold one about 10 years back and it was a big mistake. At the time I felt my early 70s deluxe was of more value to me and one had to go but that FF was the best example of simple heaven Ive ever heard. ~jay

Hi,

I guess the name's Dennis........
Yes I saw The Dennis Collection at the Göteborg Guitar Show a few years back. There are no pedals in it made after 1984 or something like that yet it took Dennis a whole day to place all pedals like that and one day to pack it all again. He said something about a book he was writing- not sure what became of that

I agree. The question was who has the best, not the most. I could have 500 DOD chorus pedals from the '80s, but I doubt anyone would consider it the best collection. It's a great time to be palying guitar though right now, with so many great boutique pedals. I swore pedals off for a time, but now I'm back into them. Right now though, I'm happy with my Rx Electronics Experience pedal, Teese Picture Wah, Addrock Not So Ol' Yeller, and Euthymia ICBM. Oh yeah, and my 500 DOD Chorus pedals. 8^ )

I agree Donner.

I tend to get emotionally attached to nice pedals, and can't bring myself to sell them even though I don't use them much.
Do others here have the same problem ?

I have close to 100 pedals, but I probably only use half a dozen regularly.

Well for me it got to be that everytime I 'thinned the herd' it just grew back and often thicker than before - I think once you get a great tone out of something it sticks with you ... the only way I ever got any peace was by making myself keep them until I truly lost my taste for them - Im still waiting :D

I agree that the "best" for everyone is different. The thread should read, "who has the largest pedal collection" there would be no best, just numbers.

I also prefer not to allow myself too many options so I tend to sell things that don't remain fixtures on my small pedalboard. Occasionally I regret selling things (KoT, HB).

I gotta say that I thought I had a pretty cool collection till I read non-digital Tom's book. Between him and Mike they have pedals that are so rare that NONE of them were built. They have pedals that are so rare, no one knows what they sound like. Well, actually they have pedals that are so cool and out there that the only examples that I've ever seen or heard of are in their collections. In Tom's list of the hardest to find and coolest pedals, I think I might own 2 or 3 of the top 10. When someone who buys and sells as much as Mike does, has to borrow stuff from Tom for the book, that's a cool collection...

Hello... my name is Greg and I have a problem - I need the support of all of you.
I'm about ready to thin the herd, so this was a good chance to get a shot of them all.
Some of my most used and loved are on the left and didn't come out too clearly.... BJF's, Skreddys and Pro Analogs.
Not in the pic are a few pedals my son is using :- a Deja Vibe, McFuzz, Lovepedal Believe, 2x Wahs, Dl-4.

Hi Monk
Ah yes, Jerker at the time when those were available at Musik börsen told that if you ordered 1000 units or more you could have your own name printed on the items and that was both pedals and guitars. These pedals were sold at other stores under the Coron name ( may have had another name in US) and were also available under the JJ name, while those had different colours as for instance the Coron Distortion was mustard yellow as was the Musikbörsen Distortion while the JJ Distortion was dark green- yes circuit was the same in all and the same circuits also came built into guitars!!!!!
So there was an Ibanez Les Paul recording with built in phaser and distortion.
Coron pedals had a line with
Distortion
Overdrive
Compressor
Echo
Octaver
Phaser.......

I think maybe discofreq has them all on site?

Ive never photographed my collection - might be a good excuse..I had thought about videoing it ....... mines mostly post-1984 tho "

Yes it took a large part of a wide staircase- scroll to the left and you can count the steps and at the top I seem to remember ther was a row of effects that didn't make it to be visiable in the picture. I could see this collection from a balcony where the Custom-Sounds was and went down to see it at it took some time to walk round it.
I think it took Dennis about 6 hours to put it all in place and pack it back again.
I will say that it was quite an experience to see this and many more memoryjogs than I thought.
One might imagine a colletion from the 80's and onward may be about as large!!,which was the point Dennis made that then it would be too huge ;)

I'd say it would be fun to see your collection, Don.

Most of my collection that I once had is gone but now and then something new enters many new things coming all the time it seems. I've only kept a few 'vintage' pedals for nostaligy and memories- I wish I could have kept everyone of them but I know those gone got good homes and see good use

Have fun:BEER

Right, and if everyone kept everything, then there wouldnt be many vintage collections....

How many or those pedals do you think those vintage guys bought new and kept them the whole time ..... one persons loss anothers gain.....:BEER

When I get to wishing I had some of my old pedals back, I also have to think that Im glad that I got some of mine second hand too and those people probably wished they had them back too so ~~

Oh and yes I think I will try and get mypedals in one video if possible,,,, have to move a few things closer to the board

If you're not interested that's cool - why comment. Do you think maybe others are interested in your "lack of interest".
It's a forum for discussion guys - if there are people discussing something, why come along and say "I don't give a S%&t" - just don't bother to be involved - better for everyone.
Would you walk up to a group of people having a discussion and just but in to tell them you "don't give a S$T" about what they're talking about. I think that would be a bit rude !

Lolaviola - the thread was about collections... not rigs !! OK ?
There's no suggestion that anyone needs or can use a heap of pedals, but us strange little beings called humans are known to collect some unusual items. I happen to be fascinated by guitar pedals, and have built a collection of them. I find it more interesting than stamps or bottle tops. I don't really care if you approve.

Personally - I'm interested in seeing pedal collections. Analogman's, the guy with all the Big Muff's, the guy from Europe, and TGP users.
I know there are people here with more pedals than the ones in my pics... I've seen their lists.
Keep the pics and lists coming guys, and if you're not interested... read another thread or go to a Forum that isn't about pedals.

I'm with rewog here.

I happen to be pretty minimal with my own set-up, I'm not a pedal collector. I tend to only keep what I use very frequently but I still get a kick out of seeing what other people have even if just to think "oh, yeah, I remember them".

THE GEAR PAGE = gear & lots of it...no surprise to me at least!

I just finished my board with alot of help from Matt and Brian at action music in VA(some cool cats and a very cool store if your ever in VA). Anywho, I'll start from the begining of the chain : Strobostomp, Teese pic wah, vintage Ibanez AF 201, vintage Ibanez CP 835, vintage ibanez ts 808, 67' Marshall Supa fuzz, Roger Mayer Voodoo vibe jr, vintage ibanez Pt 909, vintage ibanez CS 505, vintage ibanez FL 301 DX, new maxon AD 80. ..works for me!

whoismarykelly
12-28-2006, 01:01 PM
I remember Action Guitar had some ridiculous prices on gear. If its the same pedal Im talking about it was the MXR sized AD80 that was new old stock for about $100 more than they sold for new. Everything was priced high like that. Same with custom color zvex gear. Sparkle finishes were $100 extra. ZVex only charges dealers $10 over standard cost for custom colors. Boston Guitar Works does the same thing only some of their custom colors are around $150-$200 extra at times.

Hey Rollo, looks like you have a couple of good MK11s there, are they pretty different? Also would you say the Gaspedal is in the same territory?

All a bit different. The Gaspedal Nitrous is a real spitty ge fuzz and it responds so well to little picking nuances, but it doesn't clean up so well with the guitar's volume. It's a fun pedal and it's great stacked with the Everman Fuzz Drive.

The Proanalog Mk ii cleans up like no other Mk II I've tried. I like to run it with the gain cranked a bit, then dial down the guitar's volume a little and play with the dynamics.

Yep. And when he goes to heaven he gets to play David Gilmour's rig. If he goes to hell, he gets my Dunlop wah, DD-3 and some DOD pedals and has to live in Guitar Center listening to 14-year-old wankers blasting away for eternity. Can't touch any good gear either.

I peaked at 149 pedals, I realized I had a problem one day I walked into my music room and stubbed my toe on a crate of 50 pedals and then bumped into another crate that had 32 pedals in it.. I said Mike- WTF man you need to stop buying pedals heheh.. So I kept 32 of my favorite Go tos and sold off the rest on ebay- paid off my truck loan doing it too -3 years early.... pedals add up quick even more so when they're zvex, klon, keeley etc..

I'm a bit in both camps.

There are some pedals I would love...so I do have some PE (pedal Envy).

But some of the numbers around here are SERIOUSLY SCARY.

I'm wondering how many cars-guitars- and in some cases houses, boats, small planes or even countries could be purchased for the money in some of this gear.

But I'm a guy, so I understand the size and comparison thing.

Are these MEGA collections early or late altrernatives to a mid life crisis??????:BEER

If these are the collections, I'd hate to have to wire the boards!!!!!!!!

I am now up to 279 total pedals. In twenty years I will start selling off my pedal, guitar, and amplifier collection. It's a hobby that is fun and enjoyable as well it provides a tangible investment to offset my retirement investments/savings/funds. A midlife crisis would be more like divorce my wife, buy a corvette/porsche, and start dating girls half my age. The only things I have to fear is that e-bay could go under and over the next twenty years some one could invent a pedal to end all pedals. The stock market isn't any less of a gamble these days!!! I need to update my web-site with the new pedals I have aquired since the first post.

I saw a very similar picture in a guitar magazine. I don't remember which rag it was. I'll search through my stacks of mags and see if I can find it. The actual collection is so large the person who found or posted this picture may have had to take several pictures either in person or from the web then paste them together to capture the whole collection in one photo. The collection belongs to a guy who lives in Finland or Sweden (somewhere in northern europe). I can't recall exactly where he lives but he does have the most prolific pedal collection I have ever seen. I believe his collection to be much larger than even in the suspected photoshop photo previously posted. This collectors name is Dennis he displays large parts of his pedal collection at large european guitar shows. I believe the short paragraph with the photo in the magazine also stated he was considering bringing his collection to the US to display at one of the large shows in Dallas or Philidelphia. You can view the real picture here, http://www.ultimateguitargear.com/tone_party_reviews_gothenburg_guitar_show.htm

I've got a modest little collection going..

Modern/Booteeq Fuzz:

13 or so D*A*M's(2 x MK II, a 1966, 3 Meatheads, a FleshHead, Meathead Deluxe #4, Fuzzaround, Sonic Titan, 1 of 1 AB/Y, 2 x Ramhead, and the last Zeke ever made).

Seven(eight?) Four DeMarco boxes(Custom 1 of 1 'Deluxe' Klonebender II/MK II, Custom 1 of 1 Glassbender/Tube-driven MK II, Unidrive clone and Klonebender III/MK III), Monolith's Oracle & Spectre. Earthquaker Devices' Hoof and Royal Overdrive. fOXX Tone Machine re-issue, Soulkitchen FX's Black Eye(1 of 1 PTP over-fuzz), Skin Pimp's MK III #2, The Rat re-issue, and uh....well I know there's more, but I'll have to think about it a minute.

then,,,since I have tone magic at my fingertips,,,,,

This ain't the biggest pedal collection, just up ther with the best.

And just like too many notes in a chord can become "unfocused"
same is true with too many pedals turned on at the same time.

Still looking for the perfect fuzz pedal to add to my collection.

Clifford-D
06-13-2009, 08:11 PM
If you ask me, we are looking at a few of these pedal collections being dealers pedals, they just bring them home for the night

that, or some people have ocd.

I'm not jealous of these big collections, it makes me feel good that I figured great tone out with seven or eight great pedals.
And I do have my sound. Isn't that the real goal? It's my goal.

I'm gob-smacked-amazed-envious-in a good way-
and have a better understanding of myself and fellow members.

I also wish I had the eye and ears that alot of you guys had-
I suppose you could call it vision or foresight......

Oz (like most countries)
has a great t.v. program called "The Collector's."
The panel are all avid collectors in their own right.

It can be compulsive viewing to just to enjoy the passion,
pleasure and occasional pain/ loss involved for many of those willing to share their "collection".

Bonnie Raitt once said about a stratocaster words to the effect of:
Ït was a tree, a living thing,
it needs to be honoured and played not just hang on a wall.

In that light I hope you all can find the needed time to get through all those pedals,
be they on a couch or the stairs or your board.

I've really enjoyed this thread and the diverse fabric of posters here.
Cheers one and all.:beer

p.s. I also wish when viewing here (not often)
I was young/ single and didn't have 3 children and a mortgage.........
then usually one of the kids yells
"Hey dad can you get off the Gear Page so I can use the computer!!!!!!!!":boxer
and life grounds my desire again. sighhhhh....

there's a few photos here that make Imelda Marcos' shoe collection seem small!!!!!!

Simon in Melbourne.

DMB, is that a morley super phaser on the right?

I have one of those. Are they worth a lot and/or highly sought after?

Its a Morley POwer Fuzz Wah. It quite honestly is the most incredible wah i have played, even though it is huge!!

It is so so smooth and has a great sweep. In fact I have a rubber gromet that lets the low end sweep stop with about a 1/4 of the way left. The guitar signal is pretty inaudible at that point. Great for bass though. Good ole 70's gear haha

I do believe the Super Phaser are very very rare!! Congrats on having one :) I frankly don't know a whole lot about them.

The super phaser was one of my first pedals, i bought it for $20 in a pawn shop 15 years ago. Mine's in great shape. Produces an awesome phaser sound and you can use the pedal part to manually sweep. I'd be willing to part with it, anyone! it's just sitting in a box in my closet!

I'm going to have to go back to Non-Digital Tom. He's got pedals that Analogman can't find! He essentially wrote the book on hard to find pedal madness. I've got maybe 1/3 of the really bizarre stuff he mentions in his book, he's got all of it! Think about it, we all know someone who's bought and sold an Echoczar or a Horsey Klon, but who else has even seen the 3 or 4 guitar synths that he's got?

I'd probably agree with this as well. I guess you could say he literally wrote the book on pedal collecting.

Holy Haunting Mids Hootenanny!
Did you build these? Big Ups to you sir!
I have one and it's a bitchin' freaky amp assaulter. I don't imagine you "chain" these together for a psychofreak-a-thon do you?
Did you see Penny Pedal's "Breakout Box" he made for the Haunting Mids pedal? Nice bit of genius there as well!

Just because this thread came up and I'm currently selling some gear off and probably won't ever have the same amount of pedals again I'm gonna line em up and take a pic.. It's not really a big collection.. but still...probably more then I'll ever have again so...

...I said coming up when I find the camera..didn't say when I'd find it though..

Found it!

Mine's not the best at all. I have the "toybox" approach, not getting the latest and greatest, but a big pile of mostly inexpensive options.

Mooer - 21 of 'em
HardWire - the entire line, other than the single-string tuner
Boss - 12 compact pedals and 3 twin pedals
Devi Ever - Hyperion, Soda Might, Torn's Peaker (so far - three more on the way)
Dano Cool Cat - the entire line (including V2s), other than the Metal II
ZVex - Vexter Wah and Fuzz Probes
Dunlop volume pedal
Farndurk (yeah, I know) X - Modula shipping tomorrow.

I'll probably keep grabbing Boss pedals and a ZVex Vexter now and then, and I may get hooked on Devi's joystick pedals once the Dream Mangler I ordered arrives, too.
