View Full Version : Splawn Quickrod Quick clip, treble off!
This is just a quick clip of my Splawn Quickrod,i read somewhere about some guy who runs his Marshall jcm 800 with the treble off and presence at 9 0`clock,so i thought i would try it,what do you think?
I used my strat which has a burstbucker out of my les paul at the bridge,i added a little reverb from sonar.

I think it sounds great. Doesn't sound muffled at all. It still has a little bit of that Splawn compressed sound but is probably the most open sounding clip of a Splawn I've heard. Then again, every other clip I've heard has had loads of gain so maybe that's why they sound compressed...
If you get a chance, can you do a clip with maybe half the amount of gain? I'm curious how Plexi like it can get and how open it sounds. I've been holding off on a Splawn because I wanted to see what the Super Stock would sound like (supposed to be less gain, more JCM800'ish) but it's been forever and the site still says "coming soon". :jo

Boz, nice clips!! Ive been seriously considering a Quickrod for the last couple years, almost bought one but went with a Soldano(which i sold). I would have to sell my Mesa Tremoverb head to finance one, and thats hard to do at this point....
All your clips sound very good!! Even with the highs rolled off, the amp has enough top-end to not sound muddy. Great tones!!

Cool clips. Mind if I ask you what speakers/cab you're using? I have QR due here in the next week, but the 2x12 cab is coming unloaded, so it's all about picking the right speaks in the next few days.
All three sounded great!!

My fave Celestion for hard rock! Same speaker I'm currently using in my amp, despite all the haters. :AOK

Me too actually...
I picked up a 1960b cab for cheap expecting to swap out 2 of the 75's for v30's and I ended up liking it enough that I'm leaving it as is.

The Splawn is nice if you are into the EVH thing but personally, I like the Recto better. Way more tones in that box :)

There are sooooooooo many other tones in the Splawn. Personally, I think the EVH thing is a difficult tone to get out of it.
