Looks like Sadowsky has finished his Semi-Hollow guitar. Looks great and with all the positive feedback regarding the Hall/Bruno guitars.... can't wait to hear more about these things. :dude

Trouble indeed. I wish the price was twice as much so I wouldn't even think about it, but with those drop dead gorgeous looks and Sadowsky's reputation, it sounds almost like a bargain! See what I'm doing already? :Devil Please OH PLEASE someone tell me that you can't order it in trans blue or there is a big upcharge or something.

i've tried a few at the shop including the prototypes, and dangit, great guitar. into the carr rambler at the shop, and it just sings. amazingly fat sustain! definitely, one of the best semi hollow's i've played in a long while. and tho i'm not a fan of anything PAF'y from dimarzio, the pickups in that guitar are pretty sweet. roger has terrific ears.

Just what I need to hear :nono :D Actually I was wondering about the pickups: I take DiMarzio makes them, but are they comparable to some of their stock models? Is the bridge pu overwound, or are they both the same?

Interesting that it uses a spruce center block.

Interesting that it uses a spruce center block.Reduces the weight a bit. It also appears to be "relieved" to reduce the weight even further.
All in all, a VERY classy looking instrument...! :dude

Deve Isn't the new Hamer a Semi Hollow 25.5 with Bucker Sized Single Coils. Does that interest you?

You know, for whatever reason, Hamer guitars just don't seem to "click" with me. I've played several, and they were very nice, but they just didn't quite float the boat...
Not a slam to anyone who likes 'em... ;)

I am willing to bet that anything Roger puts his name on will be nothing but exceptional. I've aways wanted an ES 335 type guitar
or PRS Hollowbody but with this guitar, I may pull the trigger on another Sadowsky.*
*I have five (3 guitars and 2 basses) and two on the way.

I have spent a bunch of time with prototypes of this guitar and it smokes. It should be on display at Namm.

P90s? Funny you should mention them.
One of my Sadowsky's on order is a Tele body with three P90s and this redwood top on alder:

Hi Landru64 and/or jokerjkny,
could you please describe the sounds you were getting? 335ish, but on the more "acoustic" or jazzy side?

i would say pure 335. when i plugged into roger's carr rambler and cranked it on the bridge pickup, you could imagine carlton. it's not super midrangey like the ibanez 335s (which i like, don't get me wrong), but very clear and open comparatively. the ones i've spent time with were basically the same except the center block was a heavier wood and the cutaway wasn't as drastic. and of course, like all things roger, it plays like butter. one of the reasons the jim hall model got me to play an archtop at all was the playability and evenness of response up and down the neck.

Too bad they can't make a version without that cutaway intrusion. :(
gitman
12-22-2006, 05:34 PM
they probably could but won't and it's only an optical intrusion, you don't notice it when playing. like Hamer is saying : it's the better neck-joint.

I played an epiphone this past weekend that had a similar neck joint. That neck joint is fine for playing on the high strings but it's very uncomfortable if you play a line horizontally across the fingerboard down to the low strings in the upper positions. It's not an optical illusion.

i did not contradict you, Jack. i wrote " optical intrusion " and simply stated that this joint on this particular Hamer model is no hindrance for me personally. the Epiphone guitar you mention is not known to me. maybe you try this Hamer when you get the chance and it might give you a better idea. merry Christmas !
