Here is the BFG...

Good concept but as usual Gibson droped the ball in my opinion...yes some guys do want a stripped down raw Rock and Roll Les Paul however we do want all the knobs and the truss rod cover to go with it!

I'd like it better with two buckers.

It got absolutley burnt to a crisp flames on the LPF. Personally, I like the fact that they are doing something different then the same shit they were doing 40 damn years ago.
I've not played one...but I dig em looks wise (except for the knobs).

I think it's butt ugly.

i like the idea of it but have not tried one personally. its a great looking guitar IMO however from the LPF the top is apparently very rough, which i know i wouldnt like..
might be something cool to try and pickup cheap if it fails and do some mods to it (fix the top and change the knobs)

I'd buy one if they made them lefty. Of course I'd demand a set of tophats go with the deal.

Another in a sadly long line of marketing gimmicks, as opposed to instruments that actually respond to market need...

It's ugly but cool... What I don't get is the finish/top. It says no flame maple, but the paint job looks like flame maple?

Yeah, I thought so too. It's not though. The pattern that looks like flame maple is actually sanding marks on wood that was put through a planer or something. This was one of the main beefs over at the Les Paul Forum. It's supposedly rough and unfinished. I personally don't really care (don't mean it in a bad way) but I do think it's mostly hype. I'd wait and pick one up used and make it a "project" I think. Top Hat knobs, truss rod cover and maybe a quick refin and bam!!!!! I think I would have the switch changed back to a normal LP configuration. I don't really need a kill switch. That's just me though. I don't really care what Gibson does and I think it's obvious that the whole idea of a corporation is to make money. Fender's no better but at any rate I appreciate the idea of another "entry level" LP, however ugly one might think it is. Especially used.

I think it is kind of ugly and I think that Gibson has messed up in evaluating the wants of their target market. I don't think people really want this kind of stuff from Gibson. Most Gibson customers buy them because they are classic styles they have grown up with. Every time Gibson has tried to introduce something new or "modern" since the 50's they've been burned...with the exception of the SG. How long did the Voodoo series of instruments last? Unless I'm forgetting some other success they've had this will probably be another big flop.

As for the top, it looks to me like it is unsanded. The top looks to actually have ridges that are unfinished. Like someone roughly carved the top with chisels, then they painted the guitar, and then they sanded the top of the ridges to take the paint off. Here's the best picture of the top detail I can find from musicians friend:

I think back to when I was a kid (late 1960s) and first wanted a Les Paul. The only entry level LPs were the Jr and Special. I never wanted one of those back then, because it wasn't much like the LP I really wanted. A used SG seemed closer to my kid mind. For me, my mind accepts LP in the Jr, Special, Standard and Custom. Any other variations don't do much for me at all. I suppose if it had been available then, I may have considered a Studio.

The formula is simple IMO: make good looking, good sounding, quality instruments that people can afford. Build them and we will come. The BFG reminds me of a bad project from high school woodshop.

Be sure and check out the BFG's 'theme song' which Gibson apparently commissioned from an extremely bad metal band called Skullkin: http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/BFG-e048a1fcc73eafb4758ec29afe34efd4.mp3

If you can get past the looks of the top  The guitar is very cool :RoCkIn These guitars are killer !! 7lbs of killer tone, yes 7lbs !! The P90 in the neck is cool and the burstbucker 3 in the bridge is the ticket. The guitar is very loud unpluged and screams pluged in !! For the money, It's a great player .

What a dumb idea IMHO. I can handle "satin" or "rubbed" finishes. I don't like 'em, but I can deal with 'em.

The BFG isn't "done". It's like they didn't bother sanding it down. That is just ... well, reprehensible. Anybody looking at the BFG would be better off with an Epiphone LP.

I don't get it and I can get into some off the wall stuff, this one is just completely beyond me. The top on the red one looks like raw meat and I don't see that as a good thing lol. Then they "sand" it to look like flamed maple which makes NO sence to me at all.

I like the P90 in the neck idea and although they've gotten complants, I kinda like the knobs but thats all its got going for it to me. But I'm definetly not in the market for a lester any time soon, I've got the perfect one for me and I just don't feel GAS for another.
