So the mongrel Trace Elliot Velocette I picked up at the end of November got a new Weber 10" Silver bell Alnico 30. What a difference. I think the Celestion Vintage 10 was fried or something as it sounded like the speaker in a $10 radio. The weber is clear with great chime when clean but screams when overdriven. I replaced all the tubes with JJs. It has Tesla EL84s in it but when I first turned the amp on, one was glowing red. It amy ahve been because the amp had been in the back of a cold UPS truck for all day. It didn't glow the next day but I changed it anyway.

So now I have a fun little amp that is chimey and interesting with the guitar volume backed off but snarly and screaming when you turn the guitar volume up. And I've not turned the amp past 12 oclock. The thing is still awfully loud.

Weber is usually a good bet in my experience - the descriptions are very helpful and the quality is tip-top.

A question. In order to fit the speaker in the cabinet, I had to remove the dust cover on the magnet. Is this a big deal?

no big deal. The speakers are fine with the covers on or off. I think they are mainly just for looks.

I had to remove the cover from my 10A125 to fit it in my pro jr.

I had to remove the magnet cover on my 12A125 to get it in my Deluxe. Again, just for looks.
