View Full Version : Standard Tone Stack Cap Value Question

Most of the time, one sees the same value capacitors in amplifier tone stacks. There are exceptions, but it is usually 470(500)pf, .02uf, .02uf.

Can any meaningful tone shaping be done by playing with these values? By using larger value mid and bass caps, can one shift the area that the mid pot controls downward?

What is the smallest increment to play around with?

I am aware that drastic changes might not occur as the slope on normal tone controls is pretty gentle.

Also look at some Fender schematics. They use different values than the ones you posted.
