Just received a 65 Fender Twin Reverb Reissue. UPS dropped it on its corner and damaged the cabinet. They have agreed it was there fault and it was packaged properly and aclaim is in process. Everything except the reverb works ok. When the reverb knob is turned up it makes a static hissing noise through the speakers. When the reverb knob is turned off the noise goes away. It also will make that loud crash sound if you bump the reverb tank like we have all heard when sitting the amp down to hard while it is turned on. I have checked the connections and they are hooked up right. Is there anything that might be obvious that I can check and maybe get it working? Your expert help and advice appreciated.

This may sound rediculous to you,

But when you turn up the reverb to use it and you get that hissing noise going...........
Take your middle finger and flick the knob itself as if you were flicking an ear as a joke.
Try it a couple of times.
Let me know if the reverb starts working again in any manner however slight or perfect.

All the best,
Mass

I had something VERY similar happen to me once, and after flicking the knob dead on, the reverb came back forever.........
It was worth a try.
I am sure some of the experts here will chime in tonight or tomorrow.
Best of luck to you,
Mass

take the reverb tank out of its vinyl bag and give it a look inside. There are hair-thin wires that connect to the input and output jacks of the reverb tank.

I'd say it's about an 80% shot that one of the wires on the input jack broke off. If you can manage to strip that lil' bugger and solder it back on, you're golden.

Other things to check if that's not it:

the solder joints on the PCB for the reverb jacks
reverb driver tube

I recieved an allen accomplice from someone here on TGP with the same excact problem. I turn the reverb knob up, and it makes a loud hiss and changes the tone of the amp a little. I might be able to fix it IF I EVER GET THE ****ING GODDAMN SCHEMATICS!!! :FM

Sorry, but I've been waiting for the schematics for over a month. They were supposed to come with the amp.

9 times out of 10 it's the internal tank connections. I've repaired or replaced about 20 accutronics tanks in the last year. I've had reverb tank connections or transducers die in transit to customers about 60% of the time. Pull the tank and check the connections and use an ohmmeter to check each jack for low resistance (a few ohms to a few hundred ohms).

Check the output of the tank for low resistance or try a new tank.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For letting me know about this. On reflection I should have looked, but I'm 57 light bulb in my head is getting less bright every day. It was one of the fine little wires, it came off inside the reverb tank. I soldered it on after carefully stripping the hair thin wire. It works great! Thanks Guys

thanks guys. I looked inside the reverb tank before and everything seemed ok.... I'll try the ohmmeter on the jacks. It's supposed to be a few hundred ohms? I'll take a closer look inside, hopefully it's just a broken wire like the other guy had. Then I could solder it easy.

If that don't work I'll give David Allen a call.

I can't seem to get their site to come up, but the accutronics site is http://www.accutronicsreverb.com . The specific input and output transducer coil dc resistances are found there as well as transducer coil color and codes for tanks.
