Hi -

I recently acquired an old Fender Harvard solid state amp that does not work. After taking a look I found that the capacitors had leaked out on the board and some other components. I was going to start chipping away using a screwdriver (and gloves). Does anybody have any suggestions (solvents?) for removing the goo? This stuff is new to me. Thanks for any help!

Andy

Try some mineral spirits (paint thinner) or flux remover if you can find some. Mineral spirits is the most benign of solvents but should do the job.

Mike, what about possible PCB contamination?

P.S. Got the Svets, thanks! (Haven't been able to try 'em yet, though. :o )

Cool Jon. Not sure about the contamination angle. Chipping away would be the best defense against that.
