I got this Edwards ELP-85SD Goldtop from Ishibashi in Japan recently for $700 shipped. I must say that it's absolutely flawless right out of the box. Great fretwork and electronics, weighs about 8.5lbs, SD JB/59 humbuckers and the finish is gorgeous. More importantly, it sounds ENORMOUS, just like a good Les Paul should. Great guitar for the money and better than a lot of Gibson's I've played over the years. Here's some pics:

Looks great. Very light for a Les Paul.
Whenever I look at sites like Ishibashi, I can't figure out how you guys actually order things from them.

I ordered through email but it takes a couple days for a reply from them. I actually just plopped in on the scale and it came in at about 8.5 lbs, so it's slightly heavier than my first guess.

Congradulations!
I too am thinking of getting Edwards LP. I also noticed you have Silo Special. How do you compare the two in tems of value, built quality, and tone???
thanks

The Silhouette is my main guitar and has been for about 3 years now. It still has the best neck I've ever played(for me anyway). Fit and finish on both was spotless. The Edwards is a great bang for the buck but so is the EBMM, although I did have to replace the weak bridge humbucker that come stock on the Silo.

Welcome to the club! I love my Edwards LP as much as my PRS collection... and I'm a bigtime PRS nut.

Congratulations
The guy in Japan that I bought my Albert Collins telecaster from also sells Edwards, the P90 gold top looked great as well, they seem to have got the color down pretty good, much better than the Epiphone version.
I did hear a guy playing an Edwards Jimmy page relic in a music store a while back, he had put a set of Wolfe's pups in it and it sounded amazing and was as light as a feather.

All of you are not helping with my GAS! I think I really want an Edwards now. Hmm...Do I go with Jimmy Page Relic or LTS 90...

Are they going to stop shipping those too, or is it just the Fenders?

The descriptions are hilarious:roll
I can never figure out what they are trying to say.
Wonder how the quality of the Edwards Strat and Tele copies are.

Yeah, I just couldn't resist this stunning sales pitch from Ishibashi's site(no I'm not making this up!):
""Resporl standard ..one of standard items of electric guitar..". Frame Maple is adopted for the top material of the body, the Seymour Duncan picking up to win support that is more full than a domestic and foreign top artist is installed in picking up, and it boasts of the spec not thought about in this price." :jo

Shhh. I don't want them to raise the prices on Edwards. ;)
Welcome to the club. Sweet looking GT. Looks like a one piece back?

You do understand that the English on their website is done by running the whole site through Excite's Japanese -> English translator, right? Try that or Babelfish with any language -> English and the results will seem like a madman rambling. That's just how translator software is at the moment.

The neck is pretty fat...similar to a 50's Standard neck.

I understand that and didn't mean to offend. I'm in sales myself and it just seems shabby to me that a company with a great product and service doesn't take the time to promote themselves with a real English website, especially when they have a link to a "english" page on their site. They could be selling a lot more guitars.

I would guess the lack of english website is because these guitars are not meant to be for sale outside japan. they are great guitars though. just dont say so on the les paul forum, they start to foam at the mouth!

Yea, they are a little stuffy over at the LPF. For cryin' out loud you can't even discuss Epiphones over there for some reason.

The Japanese Epiphones are killer too! I recently got an Epi Elite Les Paul in laquer from Ishibashi. For the money it's incredible. But it's not as good a guitar as the Epi Elite 335 I got off their U-Box. now THAT was a bargain. The 335 is made in the Terada factory, same as a lot of the better Gretsches. Just a great guitar. The LP is made in a different factory and while beautifully finished isn't quite in the same league. The Japanese-market Epiphones have Gibson shaped headstocks so look that bit better IMHO.
There are some great buys out there!

Yeah, I just got into one of those: all mahogany body, long tenon, substantial neck, decent weight. I do like it but still having a hard time with it saying Edwards on the headstock...

We put way too much attention on the name on the headstock. A good guitar is a good guitar, period. Do you think people will judge you on the name on the guitar instead of your playing? Maybe after seeing you play one, they will be interested in Edwards guitars too. :RoCkIn
I quit caring about "labels" a while back.

you are absolutely, categorically 100% correct sir. the reason for my reference to the LP forum above was, their members were trying to get a thread deleted because the guitar in question said 'Edwards' instead of 'Gibson' on the headstock :NUTS

Enter: GAS. I tned to gravitate towards the GTs since they should have fatter necks than the rest. The Elitist version only has a medium neck, which for me is better than thin, but if the Edwards has the fat one I might eventually get one of theirs. :Devil
