...anybody remember the book, "The Fender Bassman 5F6-A," well the author (Richard Kuehnel) has a new book coming out soon about guitar amplifier preamps.
...if his new book is as informational and thorough as his first, it'll certainly be worth looking into.
...when I learn more, I'll post it.

I got my copy a couple of months ago and have made it about half way through it. Not *quite* as much math as in the Bassman book, but I'm still up to my eyeballs in algebra <G>.
Well written and substantive, with *lots* of good info, but with way more math than I'm comfortable with at 59 years old <gG>. His method of presenting the circuits as resistive and capacitive circuits makes it easier to get (for me anyway) a mental image of what's going on.
Worth the bucks, as is Dave Hunter's new book:
The Guitar Amp Handbook: Understanding Tube Amplifiers and Getting Great Sounds
I'm looking forward to you getting the Kuehnel book OTM, so you can explain it to me <b'r G>.

FULL DISCLOSURE NOTICE: I am actually an informal "reviewer" for Richard and have already sent him my review.
Some of my comments he'll use, others will be debated, and some will be ignored.
FWIW -- he has a third book, a translation of George Simon Ohms: "V = I*R" in the works too.

There are so many cool things about preamps, other than gain, that make such a huge difference. Like input impedance, bandwidth, operating point of the tubes, response time and more. I think I will need to get a copy.

I just received my copy today and from what I've read so far this is an EXCELLENT book! For all you tube amp builders out there you need this book! Tech math is somewhat required and will make understanding easier if you payed attention in Mrs. Battleaxe's math class! But nevertheless an overall easy to understand guide to preamp tube theory and design explanation.
Two thumbs up!
