No doubt the delay will be killer. True bypass to boot. The big question is How much ?

I read somewhere MSRP is around $500 so $399 maybe?

Yeah I also read 500 MSRP
I also think it will be a great delay. Glad I didn't get the DD-20 I was thinking about. I will just keep my old DD-5 till I hear this one. ;)

I've got one of the new echolutions coming so hopefully I won't feel the need for another delay for quite some time.

I'll bet they are great. I've always loved their larger rack pieces. I've been on the list for an EchoCzar for over a year, and haven't recieved anything yet. I'll get one of these instead I think...

Your turn will come up and you will completely forget about the wait-time. Ed is a craftsman and has the best customer service in the business... Its hard to be patient, but it is COMPLETELY worth it.

Wow- the delay pulls 1200mA! Definitely a 'dedicated adapter' pedal.
Then again, I think I'm only pulling 400mA with the 12 pedals I have... I COULD still put that on the Power-All! Hm... definitely something to consider... the features look absolutely fantastic.

Wow. My setup has been all analog, but these look tempting. I wonder if they're using similar DSP/converter quality as in the big dollar rack units. At first glance, they definitely appear to be well thought out units.

it seems it will be able to be updated with new software over time via the USB input. That's pretty cool too!

I checked out the delay today at NAMM and it sounds nice but the dry signal is digitized so it's an all digital pedal. The harmonizer pedal will be out next- that's the one I'm most excited about.

Well so does it sound nice or does it just sound nice for a digital pedal???

I don't know.....I'm going to wait till I hear it to decide.
This is Eventide after all. Their version of digi delay might be excellent too.
Plus look at the list of delay types in this pic.

Having been to NAMM before, I think it would be hard to get a true idea of what the thing sounds like. The only thing I could hear was this.http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l218/CaseyI_2006/MABvideo2.jpg

Wow- what a time to be a guitarist into delays- damage control timeline, TTE, echoczr, echolution- I have a hard time believing how many $300 plus delay pedals are out there. Someone noticed how popular the DL4 is.

My favorite studio box for years was the Eventide box. The quality of the reverbs and delays was wonderful, I liked them better than anything else in my arsenal, including a TC M5000 and a bevy of Lexicon boxes.
For whatever reason, the H3000 had a very natural and lifelike sound; it was noticeably quieter in terms of thermal noise and hiss than other digital boxes. I realize that most guitar players want color more than naturalness, but I have a lot of respect for Eventide designers.
I'm absolutely going to get one to try out. While poorly done digitizing sucks, I'd want to spend at least few days with one of these before deciding it wasn't for me.

Now I just gotta figure out if this is gonna sidetrack my plans to just get an Eclipse already...

Heard it yesterday (as well as you can on the Namm show floor) and thought it was pretty impressive. Delays are supposedly derived from the Eclipse so not much to complain about there. That and the fact that I've never heard anything ever from Eventide which wasn't a great product definitely make it a winner in my eyes.
$499 list, $399 street.

It is digital.
In what way did it seem hard to use? I'm not being contrary, I'm just curious. I thought it looked like you just pull up the preset, whether user-stored or factory, and hit the bypass switch. Maybe I missed something?

How did it sound compared to the Line 6 DL4? That's like 1/2 the price.

I saw it- the guy was running it in the loop of a Cornford head and using lots of gain to demo it, for that smooth and subtle "post-delay" lead sound. I would think it would be much more "real world" toi run it in front of the amp and with lite to moderate gain- you'd hear the delay better and it wouldn't sound so "digital"- know what I mean? Throw it in front so it's not so clean. Would have been a more effective way to demo it.
I think it's a killer pedal. 27 presets, easy to switch, easy to tap tempo, nice.

The feature set of the delay pedal looks very cool. A street price of $400 is pushing it, but it's not crazy money. This could be kind of a hi-def version of the DL4 (with the added bonus of reverb), a workhorse delay.
I'd want to demo the Eventide with my gear and do a back to back comparison with my Deluxe Memory Man before I came to a conclusion about it's sound quality. I couldn't personally discern how good the conversion is from a NAMM show demo.

Really that is true these days.
I mean how long has a Klon been at this price?
Or how about Lovepedals? These others are basically all 1 trick ponies & they seem to sell well.
All that aside I think all pedals have gotten pretty high priced for what the are in materials ;)
Digitized dry signal???:jo :worried  :NUTS
Man... I hope you guys are wrong...
<Thanks for killing my Eventide Harmonizier pedal dreams:messedup>
I heard yesterday. As someone said, NAMM can be a loud place and not the best critical listening enviornment. It sounded good, but it was difficult to tell if it sounded better than many other delays under the circumstances. The ducking delay alone is a great feature and might worth getting the pedal for, but, if you think it's going to blow away your other delays, keep your expectations reasonable. I also agree that it should have been demoed in front of the amp in not in a loop. Pedals typically go on a board with other pedals that are placed in front of an amp. I have rack units if I want to stick a delay in a loop.

I am no expert & run my pedals up front mainly because I have older amps with no loop.
But I have always read that time based effects are always better in the loop. Is that true? Or only true in high gain situations?
sinasl1
01-22-2007, 02:36 PM
Yeah, I wouldn't say "always better in the loop", except in hi gain situations, where it's really the only way. I really like delays in front for clean and crunchy tones. I mean, all that cool Edge stuff is delay in front... it's just less clinical sounding and more exciting sounding in front, because the delay is distorting and compressing a bit by the front end of the amp (or a lot, depending on how much gain, and this is when things get messy).

2 questions:
* Can you transfer the 12 sec. loops to your computer via USB?
* Can you still use the delay over the looping feature (i.e. feeding swells to the loop)?

You do know that there's a ducking delay in the Line 6 Echo Park, right ;) I'm kind of on the fence about these. At $400 you could get a used MPX or most of a used H3000...

If there is one company who I have 100% confidence in, it's Eventide. I will say tht a few of the distortion tones on the GTR4000 or buzz saw, but I'll take something with a few dud presets to get the rest of those killer delay presets.
TheGrooveking
I heard the delay at NAMM, and loved it. I asked the guy doing the demo if he was familiar with the Yamaha UD Stomp, and yes, he even had one. Cool, said I, can your box do that bitchin' Holdsworth-designed volume swell sound that the UD kills at?
Oh yeah, says he, and he proceeded to just nail it.
I want one...
The rest of the tones were gorgeous too IMO and it can take balanced ins and outs which means you can use it for vocals and other studio stuff too.
Terrific box, and the price is a deal for what you get. This is not a Boss, guys, this is an Eventide, for under 500.00.
If they get discounted down to 4 bills or so, they will be a screaming bargain.

I was at NAMM and asked about a harmonizer in pedal form from Eventide. I'm hoping for something along the lines of the old Boss Harmonist which does two harmonies in addition to the original note. Couldn't get much specifics out of the Eventide guys at the booth about it except that one is in the works. I don't understand why no one makes such a pedal already, especially Eventide. I mean, they are the kings of the harmonizer world and no good harmonizers in pedal form are out on the market so what do they do? put out delay and modulation pedals first :jo
Right now I use an older Boss Harmonist but it tends to distort the notes unfortunately. As soon as Eventide releases theirs I will need to check it out.
