I've been hoping to get some new monitors, as an upgrade from my current setup. (Alesis Monitor 1's, driven by a 205 watt Parasound Amp.) I want the parasound amp back in my home theater system, and often get recordings that have an excess of bass when played back on other systems, because the M1's don't seem to reproduce those ultra lows. Are the powered KRK V8's an upgrade from this setup? I record for my own fun, home studio, and record live 2 guitar, bass, drums, live jams and originals in the vein of REM/Plimsouls/Wilco/Romantics/Nada Surf type music. Looking for good guitar representation primarily. Can't spend thousands. Would these be good AND better for this situation. Soundtracs Topaz 24 mixer. Good sounding mix room IMHO, separate from the tracking room. If not, what else would be good powered speakers for this? I am hoping to spend less than $1200. Opinions greatly sought. Thanks.

Yes, the KRK V8's would be a big step up.

KRK V8's are great small monitors.

On some other forums, the V6's were recommended over the V8's, specifically for mids and guitar sounds. (no synth or rap music. 80's type alterna rock, Hardest it ever gets is Nada Surf, most is like REM.) Any comparisons here?

I've heard the V8's. A friend of mine uses them. I thought they were OK. They got harsh during long mixing sessions, IMHO.

The monitors that I've been wanting to check into are the Adam A7's. I've heard nothing but good about them. They're self powered and run $999.00 pr.

I like my V6s.
Wish I knew how to mix with them.
iTunes sounds great.;)
