I found an ad in the recent Vintage Guitar Magazine for these handmade Zemaitis inspired creations and they are beautiful but I believe very expensive:

The turquoise one is really stunning.
How much?
Not my cup-o-tea, but beautiful. I can imagine they are quite expenisve, as they appear to take A LOT of time and energy for that ammount of detail.
thanks for the post,

That body style (super narrow waist LP style) never appealed to me personally, but I've always appreciated the amount of work that goes into designing and making a guitar like that. And I agree, that Turquoise one is absolutely stunning!

About $13K, judging from an Ebay link on Teye's site. If Jason Lollar is flabbergasted by the wiring design and tone-shaping tools on this guitar, I sure would like to hear one. Too bad Teye's site has no clips.

I played one (the turquoise) at NAMM - it was quite killer & unique - the tone circuit is literally the most flexible sounding I've ever played with. The neck feels pretty broken in. I totally dig it, but just can't justify spending the $$$ at this point. It definitely smokes the Japanese Zemaitis Reissues. About the same price, too.

I think they are around 12K so they do compete with the high end Japanese Zemaitis'

Hello, this is Teye, and I am very flattered by these posts. Thank you all.
To set the record straight, my guitars are currently $ 8000 direct at my workshop (both models, and left-or-right-handed). I am now about 7 months back-ordered and consider that a great compliment.
Whether anyone plans to buy one, or just wants to correspond on the Great Subject of Guitars, you can contact me via teye@teye.com
Thanks again!
Sincerely,

hey guys... I had the pleasure of playing one of these and I have to say that this guitar is simply stunning... I personally think that you could put this guitar against anything else out there and be stunned to see what you find... best sounding guitar I've ever heard or played... I even found a way to buy one because I had to have one
jon
Hey Guys,
I too had the opportunity to play Teye's Electric Gypsy guitar and was quite amazed to say the least. He did a pretty gutsy thing when I visited him a couple of weeks ago. Before I played the Gypsy Teye asked me to play his Pearl Top Zemaitis made for him by Tony Zemaitis in 1994. That guitar is worth over $80k today. Well, to make a long story short I liked the Gypsy better! Teye has created something special here. I agree with GBISN1960 that the only thing better than the way this guitar looks is the way it plays and sounds. I ordered #8 and will have it in late March or April. Teye is an awesome luthier and a great person to match. I will be visiting him again in a couple of weeks and will post some pics of my Gypsy in progress. This is one to watch for sure.

It is welcomed and encouraged. Posts that relate directly to sales or information about new products about which you want to get the word out should be posted in the dealers section. Those like you posted above are appropriate and very much appreciated. Nice work, and I'm happy to hear that you are back ordered. Great guitars and well mannered - I have a feeling that you wait list will continue to grow!

I'd like to add my thoughts to this thread about the Electric Gypsy. I was fortunate to be able to play Teye's prototype instrument a few months ago. I liked it so much that I ordered one. It will be #007 with the turquoise accents. These guitars sound and play wonderfully and photographs do not fully represent the incredible detail that goes into these guitars. Teye, besides being a fine luthier, is a gifted guitarist in both electric and flamenco guitar. He is a gentleman to deal with too. I have been very impressed by the ideas that Teye has to offer in his instruments so recently I have ordered an addtional Gypsy with the ebony and black anodized aluminum face. It will be #017 and should be ready at the end of the year. BTW, Teye also has a few song clips with his band up on his website that features the Gypsy if anyone is interested.
Thanks,
Alan

WARNING:
There is an internet scam going on that also involves a guitar of mine. Several high priced guitars are being offered for a fraction of the price on a site called FunDevices.
The Teye Electric Gypsy was offered for US $ 1499: too good to be true. It was listed as being sold by Music Ground store in England. Music Ground indeed bought one of my guitars in November, listed it on the internet, and then sold it in January.
A quick phone call to Music Ground confirmed: they do NOT have this guitar anymore. So the listing on Fun Devices is not a legit listing.
So: buyer beware: the great prices will almost certainly result in money out the window!
One of the other guitars involved: a Gibson Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V for $ 899.
I sincerely hope nobody fell for it already. I notified Music Ground; Fun Devices, and Google (thru whom the billing was done). The listing has since been removed. teye.com will always have the latest.
Sincerely,
Teye

Thanks Teye!
Just received Teye's #8 guitar. In short, it sounds and feels as good as it looks! It is hard to describe the feel of this guitar without doing it an injustice. This guitar was built for *me*. Teye has gone to great lengths to have it be just perfect and exactly what I wanted. The only way to describe this guitar is that it has the same *personal* feel that the Zemaitis guitars have. The hand crafted quality comes out in the sound and feel of this wonderful guitar.
Here are some pics I took tonight if your curious.

I have to agree with Davo. I have had #007 for a couple of months now and it has become one of the main guitars I go to. It can be fat and thick, yet with it's unique switching system and "mood knob" one can get very usable single coil sounds and many things in between. Single notes seem to sustain forever, and will do so all the way up the neck. The guitar has excellent playability and strings are very easy to bend. There are no dead spots on the fretboard either, and Teye does wonderful fret work. It's one of those instruments that hits you at many different levels- the looks, the sound, the feel, even the smell of the varnish it is finished with. All of these things reinforce the fact that you are playing a very special handcrafted instrument. Teye has been great to deal with and has become a friend of mine through the process. His ideas on guitar making are unique and work very well. I'm very happy! This is a guitar that you don't want to put down. Here is a link to a photo page I have set up for the Gypsy for those who are interested.

Alan,
Thanks for posting the pics. It is interesting to see the difference in the engraving. Really unique works of art. Do you have any favorite setting combinations with the 5-position and mood knob?

Hi Davo, I have a few favorite places where I seem to be hanging out at on the guitar. For overdriven solos with my tube driver the bridge pickup with the mood knob full on works great. Lots of sustain, especially incredible above the 15th fret. The notes seem to hang on. When I want to get clean, chimey sounds I keep it on the bridge pickup and back the mood knob to 1. Add some delay and the guitar rings very nicely. For clean funk rhythms setting the selector switch between 2 & 3 or 3 & 4 (activating all 3 pickups) and the mood knob on 1 gives a sound similar to the strat in-between positions but fuller. Lately for clean soloing using the neck pickup with the mood knob between 1 and 5 removes some of the typical muddiness of that position and lets the woodiness of the guitar come through. All the positions are very usable. It's all going to be good. Pretty incredible for a humbucking equipped guitar.
Multi-position selector switch (Finally figured out how to post photos).

Davo, I was looking at your pics on your photo page. The control knobs look great. A nice personal touch. If you get the chance I also would be interested in seeing how he engraved your headstock. Davo and Brock, if you are around the Austin area let me know and we could have the first Electric Gypsy owners meeting, maybe even get Teye there. It would also be interesting to see who else on the Board has one or is in line to get one. If any of you Gypsy owners are around, speak out! And Brock, get ready, it is going to be a fun ride.

I'll probably be down there in August since I leave town for work soon until the end of July. I'm sure during that time I'll be able to book my flight and be able to head down there right after I get home. It would be great to be able to meet with the other owners when I pick up my guitar. That way maybe I could hear the different sounds you have figured out. Alan.... I'll PM you with my number. Lets talk about it.....B
I'll snap a pic this weekend of the headstock of #8 and post it. I must admit, your pics are so much better than mine. What type of camera/setup are you using. I am simply using a small sony digital camera and the flash is hell with all the metal on La India.
As for the first annual Teye Guitars get together - Count me in! I am in Dallas, but will pop down to Austin whenever it is planned. Maybe you should pick a date and publish it. I think it should be a big jam! I think Teye would love it - maybe an annual event (any excuse for a party!).

Davo, I have a Cannon EOS 20D digital camera with 17-50 zoom lens that I use at work. I have a small Sony too and it takes great pics. The problem is getting the flash far enough away from the camera to reduce glare. I have a directional flash mounted on a flash bracket that attaches to the camera which moves the flash away from the camera. I can also point the flash up to the ceiling and remove the glare on the India's metal. After that it's trial and error. You might try shooting outside which should help with that issue of glare. I'm learning but I really enjoy photographing guitars. Gonna get a background or two and lamps to work with soon.
I traded emails with Teye today and he would be honored to be there. I like the idea of a big jam and seeing several Gypsies going at once. I'll be working on that and keep everyone up to date. Brock said a few replies up that he will be in Austin sometime in August to pick his India up. That would be a good time to do it. Let's keep talking about it.

For anyone interested here is a pic of Teye in action with the Electric Gypsy at the Old Pecan Street Festival in Austin a few weeks ago. He is playing with his band the Barbarians of Sevilla. I think he is playing one of the newest Gypsys that he made for himself. Teye and the guitar sounded great.

Hello everybody,
Alan posted the great shot of the Barbarians of Sevilla performing in Austin (see two posts earlier). Indeed, the guitar I play there is "my own". Can you imagine? All those other people playing an Electric Gypsy and I didn't even have one myself?
So, as an experiment, I stuck together what I really felt were not the best of pieces of wood, on purpose, so that the resulting guitar would be impossible to sell. I also used a bridge that had some problems, which I fixed, but also: unsellable. Plus, since there would be no one to complain, I took some shortcuts on the finishing touches.
In short: an experiment. Were my guitars just coincidences, with great sound and feel because of the parts and materials? Or is the secret to be found in the design, like the esteemed flamenco guitar constructor Manuel Reyes told me?
The guitar sounds wonderful, plays wonderful: a valid experiment. I am proud to say that I too, now, play an Electric Gypsy!

I remember hearing an interview of a archtop maker that said its not the wood you use....its usually the way it's constructed. He made a guitar out of pine that people said blew the competition away. I've been able to talk to a few owners Teye..... seems like everyone wants to have more than one. 3 or 4 for me would be great!

I tried to post earlier but it didn't work so let me try again, because I would like to contribute to this discussion.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of playing a Teye Electric Gypsy, when he presented the guitar in my country the Netherlands. I was literally blown away by this guitar! Every chord, every single note I played on it just rang with a muscle and a clarity that I have not heard anywhere else. And the versatility is just unbelievable. Just when you think you have now run out of new possibilities, you find a fresh tone that inspires to more playing. The sustain is fantastic. And of course the beauty of the instrument......... I am quite happy with my current number-one instrument (Ted Newman-Jones) but the Teye is simply in a class all by itself. I hope to be able to order one soon, before he becomes popular and the wait list will be too long.
What this guitar is, is a Zemaitis on steroids!!!

**I WORK FOR THE MAGAZINE** If I'm spamming, sorry.(And I'm the guitarmaker...) Thanks James for the link, I am thrilled at all the positive vibe that seems to surround the instruments I make! You can imagine what it means when, after a month and then some of sweat, sore hands, reluctant tools, etc, the result is well-received by the most tone-discriminate of players.
I would like to add one detail to the Premier Guitar Magazine video: in it, the "Fendery" side of my guitars is being played: with that MOOD-knob turned all the way down. For the big sounds, may I invite you to the SOUNDS-link on my website for some clips?
And yes, moderators, if this is crossing the line of good taste, please accept my apologies and remove.

Ok... so I've been able to play my guitar today for a few hours. I love this guitar. There are alot of options of sound, but not too many that it's overwhelming. What is growing on me most isn't the fact that it sounds so good or that its the best playing guitar I've owned or played for that matter... but its the fact that it was hand made with me in mind. I called Teye enough times that he got to know me and this guitar plays for me like it was made for my hands. Teye has told me that the more I play it the better the guitar will sound. That is an exciting thought.... it sounds so good now, I will be looking forward to the future. If any of the members here are thinking about purchasing one but are still on the fence.... do what I did and sell everything you dont use and make the leap. I know what Teye felt when he got his first Zemaitis from Tony. Now...... what else can I sell?

I went to the website and found the navigation a pain and thought the design of the guitar borrowed too much. Then I saw the pictures and ate some rather tasty crow. That instrument is remarkable. After watching Muse and seeking the bespoke guitars this is the only thing I have seen that comes close to that level of craftsmanship. The metalwork is stunning, I find it far more pleasing than Z*****s.
enjoy Brock

Well, there are enough photos floating around this post now that I felt we had the unique opportunity to see Brock's #009, Davo's #008, and my #007 together with side by side shots. So I thought I would try to assemble a few of everyone's shots together to see the similarities and differences. (Pretty nice shots you guys took too, Brock and Davo, but Davo, I didn't see one of your headstock. Steve E, thanks for your enhancements on Brock's photos). The photos illustrate how each of the guitars are the same design yet with each having its own personality. Combine that with the great sounds and wonderful playability and you get unique functional works of art. And as Teye tweaks and updates some of the features on the newer guitars I just found out he offers those updates to the instruments that are older. Brock, your instrument has different bolts which attach the bridge to the body that Teye feels works better. My guitar is going to him next week to be updated. Davo, if you get the chance take a shot of your headstock and throw it in.
Here are the shots:

So this was fun for me to see three sequential instruments together. I would even like to see comparisons of the engraving around the pickup selector switch, the pickup rings, and the knobs. So if you guys want to take the shots and get them to me I will assemble them in a future post. Brock, enjoy that guitar and keep the comments coming!! I discover new things every time I pick the instrument up. Now all of us have to figure out how to post some audio clips. And for the next question....what is everyone playing theirs through?
Thanks!!

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s155/taelynn_01/newteye014.jpgOk.... I took some pics. I cant load all of them for some reason so here is at least the amp I've been playing with. Its a 1967 Watkins. I put it in a different box and a greenback. But it plays like a 18 watt Marshall. I love how the amp really brings out all the great tone of the Electric Gypsy.

Cool guitars, guys :dude
I gotta admit, there is so much going on with them I didn't even notice the pickup selector switch in there...probably figured it just switched by magic.
Brock - how's she do through the Aiken Tomcat???

She really opens that amp up. I need to turn it up more tho. I haven't been able to yet.... just a little. I'll be able to crank it this weekend.

I just wanted to bring some attention to these great guitars. The #009 Gypsy has really opened up lately. I still feel this guitar has the best tone money can buy. Any other Gypsy players please chime in and let us know how your guitar is treating you. I took mine to a local amp fest and it recieved great reaction from local players.

just got clued in to these amazing instruments. going by the features, pictures and video/audio clips, they really embody a lot of what i've been looking for in an electric guitar. gonna start saving up for one, maybe i'll be able to afford one in a few years time! maybe i'll be able to save enough to fly over to teye's to try out one of this instruments first... mmm... i sense a holiday plan taking shape :D

Hey guys I have been talking with Teye and it looks like he is going to create the first Teye Bass for me... I am way stoked...
We are working out the details and the specs and I will keep you all in tune as it develops...
I'm pushing for a 34" scale and keeping to 4 strings...
I also considered the James Trussart Steelcaster bass, but I love the look and the detail and the craft work that Teye is doing... and it is an original art piece...
every now and then you have to just pull the trigger and go for it...
it will be my crown jewel to go with my 72 p bass, my new jaguar and my Eastwood Airline Map bass... and my other ones....
I can't wait to feel the new sound of the bottom end!
cheers

grant in toronto Sweet!!! Please post pics as soon as you get it. I'm sure you'll be very happy with Teye's work. My Electric Gypsy has gone beyond what any of my other guitars have done tonally. I think my guitar is beautiful, but if it didn't sound good, it'd just be a wall hanger. It sounds better than it looks in my opinion.
Teye will obviously have to change his wiring and pickup schema. He is such a tone freak (I mean that in the most positive way) that whatever he does will be awesome. Can't wait to see it. Make sure and post pics. I plan on visiting Teye in a few weeks.

just getting info back from Teye and the first Teye Gypsy Bass is on target for mid-October...
tone will be key and we are still in talks on electronics... maybe 3 pcik-ups by the time we be done....
I'm going around and checking every type around to get a feel for what pick-ups work for me... I prefer the quarter pounds I had before my EMGs... and they came after my Warwick actives...
I'm open to thoughts on pick-ups...
I like the active/passive concept on my Jaguar...
as the bass develops I will post photos...
cheers

Teye uses Lollar pickups in his guitars, so maybe you can look at Lollars website and see if he has anything you might like. Teye has a good relationship wish Jason so he might make exactly what you need.

Hi Brock
talking with Teye and we are looking at Norstrand replica Music Man Humbuckers... he's excited with the wiring potentials...
he's the tone god... be interesting to see what we end up in the end with...
I'm so excited about owning the first Teye Bass... I'll be heading to Texas to check out the development over the next few months...
hope to post images as it grows...

bump for Teye's fantastic creations.
I've got one of the proto S-series coming.
Got to play them this weekend at the Guitar Show in Dallas. Scary good tone in those guitars. That MOOD knob is a miracle control. One minute I had a fat Les Paul sound and then he turned a couple controls and I was playing the best strat I'd ever heard.
Cheers Teye.

Hi to all.
I think I am one of the most luckiest guys in the world today.
Teye N.11 arrived today.
Yes, the personal Teye guitar, tested by Mr. Lester Polfus himself(and trust me he won't get it back).
Just a short thought about Teye's artwork(more to follow).
You know everybody wants a guitar with soul and personality, because your favorite players have that sound with their own soul and personality. So you bought the R8 ,R9 and R60 Les Pauls. You bought these tastefull Relic Strats, because they are expensive, and they are supposed to have soul, but...
They are sadly only representations of a personality. They are good to very good(and especially nice) guitars, but they have no soul.
That was my first thought when I played my Teye.
It was ME playing, with a divine sound an feeling. It was ME who expressed a feeling through the guitar.
This is my very first day with laIndia, more comments to follow, but one thing for shure:
Chapeau, Monsieur Teye

Congrats on #011. I have #009 and love her more everytime I play her. Please get some good shots of your guitar and let us know the reactions you get from your guitar. You'll get plenty of them....B
I own #8 and it is hands down my favorite guitar - and I have quite a collection now.

I am patiently waiting for the less expensive production model to be available.
Teye brought a couple of guitars to a gig for me to play and they were indeed amazing.
I love the tone of his instruments and I WANT ONE!

Hello everyone,
I ordered an amp to 3 Monkeys Amps Greg Howard recently for France
and I told him I was looking for a guitar in the Zemaitis Style, I
Teye advised.
So I commissioned a Teye Series A will happen in France at the end
Month in June I put photos as soon as it happens!
It will be like Mora on photos of the website (but with different engraveds)
it has the hardware and straplocks gold, support will be the new humbucker
Only 1 block to round shape, contour mosaic with ebony and black
inserts.
The rear of the instrument will be different from the traditional Mora, there will be no black (natural wood color on the body and neck), as an India.
1 aluminum plate 1 single part, with a slight engraved + inserts into the wood.
I want you informed ASAP
