Hello, I would love to get everyone's input about the best trem pedal? I am thinking of buying an old Diaz Tremodillo made by CD. Anyone have experience with this pedal? Thanks for your help.

I have an older Tremodillo that I love. I keep it around for generaly tremolo on acid fun.

My tremodillo was never quite right. Cesar took it back twice & played with it but it just never quite had "it". Plus, the clock pulse was audible through the amp 100% of the time because the unit wasn't true bypass. This made the pedal totally unacceptable to me.
I have a Boss trem, and it's just fine.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe ... powerful.
Does anyone here own a Toneczar Powerglide?

I like mine a lot. They can be problematic but so far, for me, it has been worth the slight hassle because the effect sounds so good.

I had a Tremadillo that I got in the mid 90's. It was dark, syrpy and had an interesting vibe to it... until it broke. :(
The Cusak Tap-A-Whirl is my favorite trem now. 24 wave forms(!) with tap tempo and ramping. It's all I'll ever need. :)

I really like my BYOC trem. Granted it doesn't have near the features, but it sure sounds nice.
Just got an empress trem and it is amazing. Great sound and super stage-friendly. You can set trem speed manually, via tap-tempo, or you can set two independent speeds then smoothly ramp between them by tapping a footswitch. Very cool. Plus its reasonably priced; i.e. cheaper than the cusack, which is the only other tap trem out there, and I think the empress has more useful features.

TC Jauernig Deluxe Twin Rate Tremolo!
It has a killer brown face Fender vibe to it with two footswitchable speeds. I replaced my Diaz with it and haven't looked back..though that Empress sure sounds interesting. Hmmm....

I had a tremodillo for a bit ( the guy that made them with Ceazer Diaz still makes them )....
It had one sweet spot that sounded great - but any deviation from that one sound and speed didn't sound good....some of the sounds ( like high settings on the dwell knob )...are utterly useless and bad. It's an odd pedal.
Also, it changes your tone drasctically whether bypassed or not....adds mids and cuts high's.
Interestingly some people like these units for this very reason and think this adds to the overall vibe and mojo of it. It does make strats and tele's sound a bit thicker even bypassed. But I don't like pedals that alter my base tone.
After going through like 5 - 6 different trems out there I settled with a Boss TR2 modded by Keeley........
It's the best unit I've found and has a very pleasing sound and throb....

Empress Trem(EmpressEffects.com)...sounds killer, tap tempo, variable waveforms, very quiet...go to the website and listen for yourself!

I've got a Catalinbread Semaphore which is good, but I've been contemplating putting the Keeley TR-2 back on the board. The Semaphore is more transparent in the preserving the original tone, but the Keeley has a warmth to it that I just dig.

Dr. Scientist Tremolessence (http://www.drscientist.ca/pedaldetail.php?pedal_code=trem).
Absolutely wonderful sounding. All the features I need, none I don't.

I 've tried many , and owned a Tremodillo. My current fave is the Frantone Vibutron. Really sounds like amp trem, and it is dead quiet. It gives you three modes to choose from, and is built like a tank.

Thanks everybody, that is great feedback. I had no idea so many problems existed with the Tremodillo. Has anyone ever tried the Swamp Thang?

Call me crazy but I like mine. I haven't noticed any significant tone change but it does have a slight, but audible LFO when off. Since it's usually the only effect I use it sits on my amp so I keep it on and turn the dwell down when I don't want trem and turn it up when I do. It's quite a funky trem and I can't keep it on a "favorite" setting because it seems to sound different every day, I think it's possesed by CD - not that there's anything wrong with that! I told you I was crazy. :NUTS

I like the voodoo lab 4-knob model. The seek trem looks cool too...
I have a Tremodillo that I got straight from Diaz after I had two stop working. He told me there were a lot made by some one while he was sick and the quality was so bad it almost put him out of business. There is a slight boost when the pedal is bypassed. It sounds good sometimes, not other times. The trem is great and it can be dial down to almost no effect which is where I usually like trem - very subtle. I also have the Twin Rate and it sounds great but I'm thinking about sending it to TC so he can mod it to be more subtle when I want to dial it in that way. The Dr. Scientist looks and sounds very cool. I have a little gas for that one.

would like to know, since i'm considering between this two, if anyone here had both the semaphore and dr. scientist trem..thoughts? they are quite similar in both price and features from what i see, but haven't heard them..thanks!

I bought a tremodillo when they first came out. Never bonded with it. Tick tock, tick tock, sort of on/off switch like. Everyone has different tastes in trem. The Cataline Semaphore has been doing it for me lately.
Another vote for the Vibutron. Expensive, but now I don't look at other tremolo pedals.

I have a Tremodillo, but I only use it for occasional sessions. The first time I took it on a gig, I used it with a battery; by the time I clicked it on in the middle of the set, the battery was dead (the battery was new at the start of the set). Also, it isn't made very well - the pots have both broken loose from the nuts that hold them to the box, and the pedal has been babied. Nice sound, though.

I have an early custom Tremodillo:
http://www.bluestheater.net/images/avatars/tremodillo.gif
got it from a friend of Cesar's
I pulled it out recently and was surprised how good it sounded .. nice big and deep, and it can go S L O W when you hit the speed switch.
No problems with mine.
I met Cesar at NAMM around '94 and ran around the show with him and a friend. He was a VERY entertaining guy. Spoke his mind, and had some great stories about Bob, Eric, and Stevie. :)
sometimes I think a lot of people weren't used to the term "amp tech" before Cesar.
RIP, Cesar

Well, the real question is:
:messedup Which one goes the slowest :messedupNo contest, the discontinued BOSS PN-2. Because it's also a stereo pan pedal, the pulse can be set so slow you can go and make a cup of coffee waiting for the sound to ramp back up. The drawback's setting the faster speeds. With such a wide range, it's tricky to dial in as you reach the end of the pot's rotation.
To get back OT, I did try a Tremodillo many years ago. Cool pedal, but there's many better choices around these days.
Cesar was a blast, tho'. I've got an amp repair video he did that's very entertaining - fun to watch him stick a screwdriver into the back of the chassis to draw off the juice.. Lots of sparks & a great big bang!!
Make sure yours has a rubber handle before trying this trick at home! :messedup!!

+1 on the Tap-A-Whirl.

This is a somewhat uncool answer, but the Marshall Tremavibe does a great job. Not at all boutique-y, but I would recommend trying it out before dropping almost 2 bills or more on any other.

My favorite trem pedal is the fulltone supa-trem. I've had one for several years and it's still my overall favorite.
Don't know about "the best" but I love my Cusack Tap-A-Whirl. I also had the Red Witch Pentavocal Trem, loved the sound but no tap-tempo.

I've been using the Demeter Tremulator for the past few years and I really like it. There is no volume control but the preset 1 dB boost when engaged is perfect for matching the straight and effected sounds, for me anyway.
