Hi all, is it safe to run 5881 reissues or tad 6l6wgc's in my BF deluxe? I'm also considering changing transformers to run 6l6gc's but im not sure if i would like the sound. Anyone done this? and what are your thought on the result? thanks.

I have upgraded trannies and therefore can run 6l6's. The sound is a little bigger and the bass is tighter. However, I run 6v6's most of the time, there is a sweetness...I have a bias probe so I can easily make the adjustment when switching. Both sounds are nice. At a high volume jam I go with 6l6's.

as a drop-in, definitely not.

for the same bias voltage, they will idle at a much higher current. even if the tubes don't redplate, you will be making a toaster out of your OT. might be a bit much for the PT as well.

you could re-bias, and keep the idle current at a level more appropiate for that OT.

also, i believe you will need a larger signal on the grids of those tubes, than on a 6V6, to get the same power output.

but since 6V6s sound soooooooooooo sweet. i can't imagine why you would want to go to all that trouble.
