I don't warm up anymore... just play music! Blues! That was Combat guiar from Japan. Now my son is using it! I don't let my sons use my ethos... he got a Rat pedal! Classic! Actually it's important to how to set your Ethos pedal... it's very musical od/clean pedal. Now I see... people in Japan are getting their ethos... I see more people at Berklee.. are using Ethos.. or waiting...
Tomo
Ha, thats right they have to earn the right to use the Ethos :dude
Hey if you havent, try that Rat into the green channel for a different singing drive tone.....

Hi,
I still love my Ethos pedal and yes it is the now called Classic version.
This is a brazilian groove produced by Lucidology and when he PM'd me and asked me to play I really wanted to do it.
The clip is in the Sound Clips section:

Hope you enjoy it!

Hi Everybody,
I would like to thank everybody for the very nice feedback I have been receiving on the Ethos. I have been extremely busy filling orders so I haven't posted in quite a long time. I did have some time this AM to update the website www.customtonesinc.com (http://www.customtonesinc.com) to include a series of video clips of some great players as well as provide some descriptive info on the Classic vs TLE versions of the Ethos.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at rob@customtonesinc.com
Thanks!
Robbie

I have a question: What are the real tone differences between the Classic and the TLE? I want to get as close to the Two-Rock sound as I possibly can. And TR amps are based off of the Dumble amp just as the Ethos pedal. So, what are the differences and what amp do you guys think I should get?

Apparently the main difference is that the TLE has a tighter bottom end than the Classic. Some say that the TLE sounds semi-artificial, but the general consensus seems to be that the TLE sounds better.
...Or you could look for one of the ones that has a switch for both :) I don't think there are many of those around though.

What about it sounds artificial? And which one sounds closer to the Dumble tone?
Edit: Oh, maybe I should add that I'm buying this pedal mainly for the clean channel.

Well I've never played a D*Style amp and only have the opinions and impressions from what I've read around here but I am hooked to the elusive sound. Certainly gives me my tone that I had wanted. The Clean channel is sublime and the overdrive is well overdrive, I found the best settings for the overdrive to be all 12 o'clock and adjust the gain to please. But the clean channel has taken even my stock crappy pickups and make them sound like something costing much more money. I think this pedal is worthwhile investment if you can not afford a D*Style amp and/or want it in pedal form and leave you amp tone intact as well. Let me know if this helps!
I forgot to mention, I have the TLE version and see no reason why you would have trouble with either, especially if you are using it for the clean channel. The Tight Low End was meant as a mod for the overdrive channel that got to be flubby in the bass.

I found the TLE to not only have a tighter low end, but a far fuller tone all around as demoed below:
My review/Demo copied from a much earlier post:

I received my Ethos with the new mod that Robbie has come up with to address the loose, somewhat buzzy low end.
Robbie has put a 2-way toggle on the left side of my unit to demo this feature.
Down is the TLE mod (tight low end), up is the original Ethos circuit.
I was really hoping that this mod would be a considerable improvement, and make the Ethos far more usable for me. In a word (or 3), it absolutely has.
I recorded a clip to demo this mod.
It starts out with the Bassman alone, then the new mod engaged at :07, followed by the original at :27, the new mod again at :39, old at :45, new at :50, old at 1:06… you will then hear me go back and forth a number of times
Is the Ethos perfect? I still have to say that in my amps anyway, the boost and GAC controls don’t do much for me. The boost seems to sound much less full, and GAC sounds like a blanket over the speaker.
I realize that the Ethos boost is based on the Dumble boost, and understand others are finding it, and the GAC useful. Personally I would find the boost to be far more useful if it were a simple clean preamp; either before, or after the OD, each would be useful.
Now, the new mod on the other hand, to my ear, there is no comparison.
The mod sounds far more full, less buzzy and more natural to me. Good Job Robbie!
I will be very curious to hear how many of you prefer the original vs new mod tone.
But….. will it replace my Zen? Absolutely not. They each have their own voice, and individual mojo goin’
Recording info:
Strat ----> Ethos---->Bassman close miked with a Sennheiser E609 (panned hard right.)

Hey Guys ... I see this thread is still growing so I thought I would jump back in.
I got #006 of the "Classic" ... I used the pedal 2x and sadly, it was lost after a gig back in November 2007. In loading my van the pedal was in it's box in a bag and never got loaded into the van (exactly what hapopened, I am not sure but it has been reported missing/stolen) so if anyone should see or hear Ethos Pedal #006, please let me know, I'll be glad to pay some reward.
Now, that said ... I "loved" the pedal so much that I wrote Robbie and told him what happened and he was kind enough to sell me a replacement. Now I have the TLE so I feel I am qualified to make a statement about the pedal in general.
For any of you guys worrying about Classic or TLE and if that is stopping you from getting one, do not let it!!! I loved them both and as has been stated, there are more good sounds than bad so if you have a Classic, just enjoy it.
Robbie is 1st class and the fact that there is a mod should not be seen as a negitive ... it's simply an "option". Enjoy and don't let the little things spoil a good thing !!

I may end up getting on of each...... although a switch option sure would be cool
I prefer the Classic.

Hoping some Ethos users could list/post photos of their rigs including pedalboards with Ethos on board, amps and guitars.

I received my Ethos TLE two days ago and I'm still in shock. This isn't a "pedal" even though it looks like one. IMHO the Ethos TLE is one of the finest "Musical Instruments" I've ever seen or heard.
The sonic purity, range of tone & lush voice make it impossible for me to call this a mere "pedal".
It is one of those rare instruments that can inspire you to new heights and has given this "old dog" a much need kick in the backside.
Robbie...you're a genius in my book. A tone guru of the highest order.
Thank You so much!!

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for all the great emails, I really appreciate them. I have done an update to the website www.customtonesinc.com (http://www.customtonesinc.com). Included is a new clip I did stacking 2 Ethos. The first pass is the Ethos TLE OD channel by itself and the second pass is the Ethos OD channel stacked into the Clean channel. The link of the clip is below. For details go to the sound clip page on the website.
Thanks,
Robbie

Our tech team has informed me that the slowness we have been experiencing on TGP appears to be caused by some of the huge threads we have on the site. We are closing the mega-threads and I am requesting that the thread starters begin a new thread....sort of a "xxxxx thread, Part II". Sorry to do this, but if the huge threads are the thing that is causing TGP to become so sluggish at times, we need to break the threads into Part I, Part II, etc. We'll see if this works. Again, our apologies. If it turns out that the mega-threads are not the cause, we'll unlock them and merge the other parts back together.
Thanks.........Brian
