I have a few old amps that do not have schematics, nor could I find anything out on the web, so I want to spec the circuits out and make my own, while they still function so I can measure good values.

I have seen some schematics on the web that guys have done that look fairly progessional. They have resistor, capacitor, tube symbols. Simple, but look good.

I googled schematic software and was inundated with choices. So... anyone in here have any recommendations? Free is good, but I don't mind paying a bit either. Obviously I don't want to pay hundreds for AutoCAD or something like that - it's personal use and so needs to be inexpensive.

...believe it or not, but you can do some interesting "stuff" simply using the graphics in MS Excel, using the spreadsheet cells as the "grid."

One software package that I've used pretty effectively is Switcher CAD from Linear Technologies. It's free! You can get it here ->

Duncan Munro has a lot of SPICE Tube Models that you can use to run actual simulations with Switcher CAD.

Tube CAD is another option if you want to spend a few buck (it's like $40).

Have fun!
