i have one deluxe but i think that i need more headroom!
my tech told me that its not difficult to convert my deluxe to a pro reverb because the circuits are very common and also these silverfaces are very easy for mods!
but i wanted to here some opinions from you also about some of these mods, tubes, transformer etc...

thanks very much for your time!:AOK

Get Allen Amplification upgrade transformers and you're basically done.

A Pro Reverb is really a LOT more amp though - size, weight and volume. Enough that if it was me, I'd prefer to upgrade the Deluxe.

There are a couple of things you could do to the Deluxe without new transformers...

Fit 6L6s, and possibly a solid-state rectifier. This will give a bigger sound, with more clean headroom and punch, and a bit more volume. To do this you will need to rebias, and if you're going to fit a SS rectifier you will need to have the filter caps replaced (which are about ready to be done anyway, on a '79 amp) with 500V-rated ones.

Fit a more efficient speaker. Depending on what you choose, it's possible you could get up to about a 3dB increase, which is equivalent to doubling the power of the amp, and that's without any other change.

What John said, though a bigger output transformer will help a lot. A 5AR4 rectifier would also increase output compared to the stock 5U4GB and still feel like a tube recto rather than the stiff SS recto.

Where/how do you mount the second speaker?

OK, more seriously.. I'd take it in 3 steps.

1.) Start with an efficient speaker, as JP stated, this can yield a 3db increase, which may be enough.

2.) If you still need a bit more, install 6L6/5881s.

3.) I you still need more, swap in a 40-50 w/ 6L6 output transformer.

I've got a modded DR that I've run Tungsol 5881s in for about 15 years. About 8 years ago it got a reissue JTM45 OT. It sports an old coffee can SRO and is louder than many 50w amps.

Sounds like a recipe for an awesome amp!! Bet it sounds sweeeeet. :AOK
