I am in the beginning stages of learning how to be an amp tech and i am in the process of getting some parts, meters, etc. to get started. Other than radio shack, what is a good place to get what I need online? Thanks.

Get acquanted with Mouser (http://www.mouser.com). They carry all the capacitors, resistors, switches, jacks, and pots. Also, you'll want to browse around on Angela's site (http://www.angela.com) for transformers, tube sockets, chassis products, etc.

MCM electronics has lots of good, inexpensive stuff. Get on their mailing list and be patient. Most of the stuff (variacs, etc) go on sale eventually.
Other worthwhile places:
Marlin P Jones & Assoc. (www.mpja.com)
Circuit Specialists
Electronic Goldmine
I would try and find used brandname stuff on ebay if it is in good shape as opposed to RS.

In addition to what these guys mentioned ....Mouser, AES, and Angela. I also use Doug Hoffman's services quite a bit as he's close to me and ships really fast.

I've used most of the suppliers mentioned with no problems. I'll add:
www.apexjr.com (http://www.apexjr.com) (cheapest teflon-coated wire I've found).
