Ok,

I bought a used carvin vintage 16 amp about two months ago to goof around with. Out of nowhere the reverb just died. I called carvin and went over a few things they had me try and just can't figure out what It could be. Its not the tube, the spings in the reverb tank look fine and I even opened it up to see if a resister or capacitor looked burnt and nada. Apparently carvin had some issues with the reverbs but I was told it generally was a shipping issue. Any suggestions?

Did you check the fine wires in the tank between the connectors and the spring transducers? Those are the most common failure on reverb tanks.

If it's not that, it could be a dead transducer - I've come across quite a few of these on more recent reverb tanks. It seems to be mostly that the joint between the coil wire and the pin it's soldered to fails, or was never made properly in the first place (Fender seem to have similar problems with their modern pickups). You won't be able to tell this by inspection, you'll need to meter it.

Carvin did say if it was indeed the tank being a Manfacturers defect they would replace it for me. I just don't have a meter or know how to evaluate it even if I did.

Is the tank connected with a standard RCA cable? If so, try another one.

I tore my hair out troubleshooting the reverb circuit on a BFDR clone I built, only to find it was a bad RCA cable. :BITCH

Yep. And an easy fix, too.

I have a nomad series the wires for the verb are directly wired inside the chassis only the connection at the tank is rca. When i received the amp from a friend he had just retubed with Groove tubes. There was one tube very microphonic and one tube very weak in the reverb section whiched barely worked which is why i got the amp very cheap. Check the tubes. And the tank being a problem is a high possibilitiy also. Shake the AMP and listen.
