I looked through the first four pages of posts and didn't see a "Post yout Godin Pics" thread, so I thought I would start one...

Mostly because I am very curious about this brand...

Seems to be nice quality, with pretty finishes, and some pretty cool features.

I had my eye on a Godin thinline-style electric/acoustic 12-string a while back... I must of have went to sleep like Rip Van Winkle or something... because by the time I got back to the store with the bread, the guitar had been sold...

dang it...

Now I've been staring at thier LG P90 guitars... (mahogany body, P-90 pickups...) I've seen them new for under $600... and on eBay for around $300 - $350... just missed one two or so days ago that went for $265... dang dang dang...

Post your Godins, folks... I would really love to see them !!!

I'm happy to see this post. This is my first "good" guitar - I had a Squier Bullet before this. It's a great guitar!

John Silberman... I like that one... I am looking for something with P90-style pickups... what model is yours? Does it have a Piezo pickup? What are all them knobs for, what do they do?

Thanks

That's the Freeway Classic. It sounds at least as good! I was worried the humbuckers would sound really mid-dy, but they're bright and clear, with strong clear bass punch. It might be due to the maple neck and the silver leaf maple body core. Lots of maple :).

One other interesting thing you can't see: the neck has no skunk stripe - the fingerboard is glued on just like a rosewood one would be. You really have to try one out!

Meant to post this yesterday, but it slipped my mind until just now. Anyway, here's Steve Stevens playing a Godin w/Billy Idol (KILLER song too fwiw):

I just love my Godin LGX-SA. It rings like a piano...such a nice and versatile guitar. Godins are seriously underrated.
Wish I could get a Montreal and a a steel string Multiac...

Those are some beautiful axes...

I test drove an Exit 22 today with a maple neck (on the right in this pic...)... plenty of spank... at a very reasonable price... UNDER $500....

Here they are in a picture from the Godin web page (they also have a rose-wood fingerboard version):

I'm a big Godin fan, but FWIW, I'm not sure they belong in the "Small Company Luthiers" category.

Oh and jamhandy, if you're thinking about the LG-P90, my advice is don't think twice! It's a great guitar and a wonderful bargain at the price. I AB'd it with an LP Faded Special, and I thought the Godin had a better feel. The LP had hotter pickups, but if you don't like the stock P-90s in the Godin, that's easily remedied. (I actually like them quite a bit.)

I love my Godin. I got my Freeway Classic from RMC519 at his store when I used to live there.

I'm a big Godin fan, but FWIW, I'm not sure they belong in the "Small Company Luthiers" category.

I put them in here, because in my opinion, Godin isn't one of the huge corporate whore-type companies (like Gibson and Fender...) so I figured this place was intended fro the small business Luthier folks...

I was thinking G&L would fit in here as well...

I can see what you mean, if you are making reference to absolutely small one-man shops like Gerard Melancon and the Melancon guitars... Gerard is practically a one-man shop... some folks might help out some... but from what I understand, every Melancon is made by Gerard himself... by hand... no fancy CNC's, etc...

Well, letr the folks have fun here, anyways... I didn't see anything anywhere pertaining to Godin guitars, so I started this thread... if the Admins want to move it and send me a private message letting me know, that's cool...

I'm a new-bee here, too...

And besides... I have been drooling over these Godins for several years, and am right at the verge of buying several..

I will post pics when I do..

Do the humbuckers split when combined with the middle pickup and by themselves?

Thanks

I posted this in another thread, and it's an LGX I'm holding. It doesn't get as much use as it should but that will change when I finally get around to putting good pups in it...

Alas, no. I've heard conflicting reports about whether the humbuckers are splittable or not at all. I'm not going to open up mine for another few months though.

Since this pic was taken, I have put cream pickup rings on it, which really brings out the natural binding on it. They aren't really bound, just the natural top colour at the edge. Love the guitar. Replaced the bridge with a Duncan 59.

It's Jon but who's counting?! :p

My Godin is a '99 LGX-SA in the discontinued amber finish. You can read all about the guitar's electronics on the Godin website. A few years back, I replaced the original neck with a new one from Godin with the current, beefier carve (very comfortable!). I pulled the stock PUPs and replaced them with Harmonic Design Z90s wired to a 4-way switch (adds both PUPs in series to the normal 3-way switch configuration; the LGX-SA comes stock with a 5-way).

The stock PUPs were a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom Custom bridge (a Custom Custom customized to Godin's specs) and a Jazz neck. I never liked the bridge PUP at all (too middy) but the Jazz neck PUP is a winner. I have it now it my Reverend S-Hitman (Hitman modded by me to add a middle Strat PUP):

Here's mine - 2 Godins. I am a bit biased but I think my Artisan Signature is the best one I've seen in the planet. Check out the neck!!

Here's my customized LG90! I had the radius on the board changed to a 9” radius since I mainly play rhythm, the 16" radius was killing me! I added a bigsby, American electronics and Dakaware Dano type knobs! Plus I made a set of celluloid tortoise shell covers!

I should add that, when I bought my Godin, the piezo option was foremost in my mind and I had thought, at first, I wanted a Hamer. After playing a bunch of Hamers and Godins, however, the Godins fit my needs better than the Hamers so that's what I got.

crosse79, you really oughtta put strings on those. They really need to be stored with strings on. Bad for the neck otherwise. I've seen bad stuff happen.

I have THREE, count 'em THREE godins.

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z209/Pietro_gtr/3_godins.jpg

The one on the left is my number one electric for about 3 years, a beautiful Flat Five X from the last year they made them. All three are wonderful, but the two electrics did have some electronics problems (I think they could stand to upgrade their pots and switches) but Godin took care of me and I'd buy another in a heartbeat. The two Multiacs with a GR33 are more fun than a boy should be allowed to have. Think about it, Electric, Acoustic, and synth all at the same time out of that middle guitar... it's a HUGE sound!

Hi Pietro,

Thanks for the advice. I took the pictures when I was re-stringing the guitar. :) I'm having trouble identifying the back wood of the guitar as it's painted black. Can still see the woodgrains and as far as I can see, it's either Ash or perhaps even maple. The grain is too wide to be Alder. Anyone has an idea on the normal specs for the signature artisan?

Regards,
Andrew

Not splittable on the SD..I checked. I think the Freeway Classic has the same 'buckers.

Here are mine: a battered old black LG with a cracked but repaired neck (still plays and sounds fantastic), an Exit 22 and a funky yellow Radiator. They're all excellent players. I can't believe I used to denigrate Godins... didn't like their shape at all. Now I'm a convert.

My Godin G series. I think a G-1000. I'll probably always have this guitar, not just because it's a great player, but because it's really not worth anything. I bought this last year for under $200.

I've got the exact same yellow Radiator - the original production run w/the "toaster" PUs sound way different, both acoustically and amplified. Nice for rootsy stuff, a cross between a Ric and a Tele.
