well I got an acoustic again finally. my Guild D-30 and a cheap 12 string got stolen from me a few years ago. I'm mostly an electric player now, but I've been wanting to get an acoustic for a long time. I tried out quite a few and ended up getting a Larrivee D-03WL(walnut). I haven't played it as much as I'd like to yet cause my band rehearsals take up alot of spare time. but so far I love it. I was looking at mahogany, rosewood and sapele models. the 1st trip, I was thinking I wanted to go mahogany or sapele. the 2nd trip I narrowed it down to the sapele and walnut. surprisingly the sapele sounded better to my ears than the regular mahogany did:confused:
but in the end, I went with the walnut. I felt it was a bit more "focused" sounding than the hog and sapele, but still really open and big sounding. the rosewood was just a little too focused sounding to my ears and didn't quite have the punchy midrange I was after. the tone is perfect to me.
I love the neck shape and feel. the action is good....possibly a HAIR high. I read they set them up this way purposefully and let the player decide if they want it lowered. so I'll wait awhile til I'm more used to it before deciding if I want it lowered.
the model tag(or whatever you call it) on the inside appears to be signed by Jean mabe??? - which is pretty cool if it is.
anyone know how many WL's they made? I read 75, but not sure if that's true as I don't know the source.

Beautiful guitar! I love walnut. To me it's the best of both worlds between rosewood and mahogany. I know you can't write it here but I'd be interested to know how much you paid (pm me if you can) 'cause I don't even see that model on their website. Maybe I'm blind.
Anyway, Congrats and enjoy!

Really nice guitar, I have a 10 year old Larrivee Florentine Cutaway that I love, the Larrivee's are incredible guitars.

I'm a Larrivee fan too. Great sounding guitars with beautiful headstock inlays. I wanted to collect all the inlays, but that's a really expensive proposition.

A friend has this headstock on his Larrivee

I am very jealous and may steal his guitar some day.

That inlay on your friend's guitar is (obviously) The Mermaid. I have that one on my Koa jumbo. (it's a cutaway)

I'm a HUGE Larrivee fan! My parents bought me an LV-05e while I was in the hospital, I LOVE that guitar... best sounding acoustic (IMO) out of all the ones I've played/heard...

That being said I'm looking to get a new Martin or Taylor :)

I've got a walnut Grammer that I love the sound of.

It's pretty beaten up and old. When I get some cash I will certainly look at a walnut Larrivee (Larry Vay).
