Felt Strap Button Pads

Trumpet valve stem felts are basically the exact same thing. Should be able to get them anywhere that does band instrument repair. (They're usually a lot cheaper than pre-packaged ones)

If you're going to fit them, make sure the screw is good enough - both long enough and a tight fit in the wood. The felt pads allow the button to work loose much more easily than if it's really cranked up tight against the wood, and if the screw comes out of the guitar taking the strap with it, you'll do a lot more harm to the finish than the button ever will.

I've seen this too many times as a repairer, BTW. I prefer not to use them except in places where the edge of the button would cut into the surface of the guitar more heavily - eg on the underside of the heel on an acoustic guitar.

I would agree with John on that analysis although I use the felts at times. I prefer a piece of cork which I usually have in ample supply for clamp pads. Gasket cork from any hardware store works well. Glue to the button and trim with sissors. Looks good, protects from button gouges, and nice positive no slip solution.

Try a Dremel #414, 1/2" felt polishing wheel. Use a razor blade to slice the pad in half for proper thickness. They even come with a center hole already punched. These are inexpensive and can be found at many stores including Wal Mart.

I just purchased a small sheet of appropriately dense felt from the local fabric store and cut out the discs as required.
