Spooky.

Now why can't I find something like that laying around in an attic.

umm......

can anyone give me more details like any of the numbers that might be written on the inside of the amp. I'll check the ebay link when I get home to see what the controls look like on top. I have a Supro from the sixties that looks just like that one from the front. It was my grandfathers (actually my Uncle's from when he lived at home)

It's missing a couple of knobs, and has some tears and has a very bad replacement power cord. Anyway, just wondering what I might have. It does have the original Jensen speaker in it. Oh it's missing the original handle, but there hasn't been any changes made to the electronics.

I've actually been planning on taking it up to Big Cookie in Ennis, Texas and having him fix it up for me. If it appears to be the same, I'll take some pics and throw them up here tonight.

I saw that one the other day. Man - hard to believe.

Pretty strong price for one of these - isn't it. Probably a record, I'm sure.

I'm especially very happy for the seller - and I hope that the buyer enjoys his or her purchase.

Goes to show the value of providing a good description.

Good description, perfect feedback record, knowlegable seller, and perhaps most importantly for a collector: a virtual NOS example of an historically desirable amp!

Am I a curmudgeon for being somewhat underwhelmed by the auction. First off, there's no such thing as a 1960 Gold Top Les Paul. Perhaps he meant an early 90s "1960 Classic) which may have been available as a GT? Secondly, while he undoubtedly has his facts down very nicely, if he's spent thousands buying Supros (and with 92 of them he must have) and he'd take his favorite Supro to a desert island, why is he selling this one? OBviously it doesn't have as much mojo as his favorite... I hope the buyer is happy but $4k is too much for a rather downscale, mass-produced amp IMHO...

OBviously it doesn't have as much mojo as his favorite...He may also be aware and afraid that by using a 40+ year-old amp that has barely been turned on since it left the factory, a filter cap problem may be just around the corner. Then a terrible thing called Instant Loss Of 100% Original Condition occurs :), and it's worth a lot less. If it happens when it's his amp, he loses out. If he sells it first, he wins. (In fact, IMO he was probably unwise to even turn it on in the first place, although it may have been harder to sell without being able to prove it was working.)

Better to cash it in while he can, and keep on playing his other ones which don't matter quite so much.

I'd do the same... I don't keep gear I can't use. I sold an absolutely 100% dead mint (+ box, stickers etc) early block-logo Phase 90 for the same reason - it truly was too nice to scratch, and there's always a risk if you use it, no matter how carefully. Some musical instruments do belong in museums.

Here's Jimmy's old Coronado model Supro, in great shape:

I think these Supro auctions are getting ridiculous - it's all based on hype now - everybody throws "Jimmy Page" into their description and suddenly an amp that used to go for a few hundred sells for a few thousand - stupid! His comments about Page and his gear are pretty silly (and often inaccurate), too.

Hmmmm. Lets just think logically about this. You're onto something there Dr.Bob. Why has he bought 92 Supros ? Surely to get the perfect example. Yes.
Just to sell it on ? I think not !!
Has he put in all this effort of buying and selling Supros, just to make a few dollars. No way ! If this really was the perfect "Page" Supro, he would have absolutely kept it. Nothing would have prized it out of his grip, after several years and 92 Supros.
As an amp to play, I would have been very wary of this one. As a collectors piece, that's another matter.

I have that exact amp, with a replaced handle, speakers, and a good bit of wear on it. It's a very loud amp, but it sounds great! My buddy asked if I'd sell it to him; now I'll have to send him the auction link.

Yep, I'm going to fix mine up and use it as my bedroom amp with a couple of pedals.

Mine is in nowhere near that condition. It needs new tubes, caps, a handle and a couple of knobs..and oh yeah, a new power cord. But it still doesn't sound bad when I turn it on.. just hums and doesn't have a lot of volume due to the bad tubes.

Yep. I haven't seen the correct model he used on ebay being sold as "the" amp he used. Its rediculous.

Speaking of finding a Supro. I did find one sitting on top of a pile of cardboard boxes in a trash pile. Its a 1604 model, all original. I took it home, plugged it in and it was making a ticking (arcing) noise. Turned out all in needed was new tubes. Works great. Added it to my bedroom practice amps.
