I had an eye opening experience this past Saturday. I played several of the D13 amps and the Germino Club 40. I was very impressed by all three of the D13 amps, the FTR37, RSA 31 and the DLW 17/39 all have something to offer going in different directions of great tone. The Germino had some nice cleans at lower volumes and a solid Marshall type OD, but honestly, it just wasn’t the amp for me.

My favorite was the FTR37. This amp is punchy, big sounding, crisp, dynamic and alive! I was very impressed. I did not think I was going to be this impressed with the amp, but wow it was really nice. I’m a bit unsure if the FTR37 is too much amp for me though. I play mostly at low to medium volumes in bands.

Are there any other amps I should consider taking a look at that fall within the tonal area of the FTR37 that might give me a similar response and feel?

My eyes are wide open for suggestions :drool

I have not heard the /13 so I can't compare it to my recomendation. But, for low to medium volume gigs I have yet to hear a better amp than a 2x12 Top Hat Club Royale...These things can do the chimey thing and they can do the low watt marshall thing really well (depending on how you eq them). Just an amazing amp. I have gigged mine for several years and have never had a single issue with it. It's an 01 and I have yet to change the tubes...although I am going to do a tube swap this week...

Bruno?

I played a Tophat and it sounded a bit like ass.

Fred does make lower wattage amps.

The FTR 37 is a killer amp. I got to dime one on Saturday at Fatsound Guitar, while there was a lull between phone calls and other customers. Yowza- it sounds huge, and every note on the guitar swells into musical feedback if you want it to. The Club 40 is excellent too, but voiced completely differently. I want both of them.

I think that the JRT 9/15 is the littel brother to the FTR, but I could be wrong...

I love my RSA23, and would definitely like to have an FTR37 to go with it.

I've still got to recover from this purchase before picking any more amps up. I'm silly, but my silliness does have boundaries.

I took the new fiddle out to a jam last night, and it got a lot of compliments.

All of your fiddles sound amazing, and you've got the chops to do 'em justice, bro! :BEER

Actually, the little brother to the FTR 37 is the SJT 10/20. It does sound very close to the 37. The 10/20 might be the one you need to try out Ken.

All the three /13 amps have a 1/2 power switch and will play at the +/-15 watt level. Fred is also a big Variac booster (no pun intended). On 1/2 power and a vasriac at say 90 volts you will sound huge and make friends with even the surliest soundmen.

Ah ok, so what your saying is the 10/20 at 20 watts sounds just about the same as the FTR37 at 18 watts?

Similar but different.

I think that if you loved the FTR however you will also dig the 10/20

Basically the FTR is a deluxe reverb with 4x6v6 and Freds special touch

the 10/20 is a 2x6v6 that switches between 20watt class a/b and 10 watt class A so you get similar but different tones.

the 10/20 is one of my favorite amps and plenty loud!
