I have a marshall dsl 401 I just got in a trade. I decided that one of the things I'm not liking about the drive channel is the bright cap on it. I know which cap it is from researching other forums, but I've heard conflicting things about getting rid of it. I know nothing about doing amp mods. Can I just clip the leads on the cap and be done with it? Or is it more involved than that?

If you're certain that you won't want to reinstall it, clipping it is fine. Even if you decide you want to put it back, you can get another cap and solder it back in.

Great, Thanks!!! I will be ordering some new tubes from you soon, but I will know what I want better after I get rid of this cap. It is on the DSL series for a reason, but it is a real problem for fans of the 401 supposedly due to the added brightness of EL 84's. I'm not sure that is the problem, but the extra high end fizz is a real problem, and all that have ditched the cap swear it fixed the problem. If I don't like it, I will get a tech to put it back in, but I'm pretty sure this will get me on the way to liking this amp much better.
